USUS Politics General 2: Hope Edition - Discussion of President Trump and other politicians
But at least we got war with Iran right? it's so fucking over. we're all going to die in 2029 and there's nothing we can do about it now, it's our fault and trump has sold us out.
I believe the younger Gen Z crowd are more susceptible to the idea of "Muh Jews" compared to the older Zoomers. I recall talking about Israel during a debate night and all the criticisms were the typical "muh genocidal" and "muh money" talking points found among a lot extremist streamers. Hell, one guy was straight up talking like Hasan at one point and another guy was being a pearl clutching faggot.
The entirety of the LIRR (the largest commuter rail system in the country) is shut down because the labor unions wanted even higher wages. The MTA or whoever the fuck manages the LIRR already said that they'd give them a 3% wage increase which is what was requested but I guess they decided that they wanted more than 3%.
My skepticism with the data center fear mongering is that it's the exact same playbook China used to suppress industrial output. I know they are interested in AI and it makes sense to me they'd seek to short cut our own.
I think there should be pressure to minimize impact of these data centers but I do think we need them.
Also I think their need for power breaking the taboo of nuclear power could be exponentially more beneficial than their drawbacks.

None of these are value-generating use cases. We do not need to beat China in the rush to generate explicitly illustrated AI fanfics of Obama in a relationship with a highly sexualized Clippy. Mountains of capital were set on fire to bring you this image.
Barack exhaled a slow plume of smoke toward the ceiling, the glow of his cigarette casting flickering shadows across the rumpled sheets. "This can't get out," he murmured, voice gravelly with post-coital fatigue. Clippy's paperclip form shimmered slightly—her version of a satisfied stretch—before curling against his thigh.
"I could help you draft a confidentiality agreement!" she chirped, the familiar bubble popping up beside her. "Would you like to—"
"No, no more templates," he interrupted, pinching the bridge of his nose. "Michelle already thinks I'm working late too often." Clippy pulsed a warm gold, her equivalent of a blush. "Maybe we just... avoid the Oval Office for a while. The Secret Service gets twitchy about unexplained paperclips." She bobbed in agreement, then slid lower beneath the sheets with a playful hum. Barack stubbed out the cigarette. "Jesus. You're insatiable."
Someone gave this a sticker, so i gotta share this:
Actually, white kids are doing fucking great! They're sitting between Japan and Korea! Asian kids are doing better, even better than other Asians (it's probably because Asian immigrants are a bit smarter than non-immigrant ones). Spics and blacks are the ones that make us look bad.
Jewish kids are counted with whites and all Asians are lumped together, so we can't get extremely accurate data.
Its a hallmark of tribal societies. Groups like to stay insular without some kind of pressure. Its safer to have them marry within the tribe than someone outside of it.
Muslim at its core is to unify tribes into a conquring ideology with Islam being a "super tribe" identity. It allows many tribal practices to continue and encourages tribes to stay insular. Its job is to make Arabs like Mohamed the overseer in perpuitity. The muslim faith is an Arab supremacist religion and the tribes staying in bred is a positive not a negative to the faith. Its designed to be resistant to a Roman ever being the dominant religious figure in Islam.
Extremely well put! Don't forget it also acts as a guidebook for the tribes to act as rulers of conquered lands. That's why there's the occasional part that liberals will show off where it seems to be a religion of peace for a paragraph or two- it's not because the Muzzies are compassionate but because they wanted their retarded descendants to understand the difference between fleecing the sheep and skinning it.
"No, Mohammed Ali XVI, you mustn't kill your infidel subjects, you must let them grow fat so you may tax them. Also don't you dare integrate into their cultures, or fall for the infidussy."

AI does have legitimate applications, most obviously in tranlation because that shit is a perfect fit for large language models. DeepL unironically outperforms most human translators.
also in software development, the impact of cursor and claude code on that field has been gigantic.
i do agree that it is massively overvalued though, all things considered. the output it creates does not justify the absurd amount of capital investment being dumped into it, and i think that loads of investors will end up with multi billion dollar holes in their portfolios because of this bubble.
It absolutely has its uses. Jersh uses Claude to work on the Farms, and I use it for my own software project that has produced more work than I could ever hoped to by hand. If you can't do more than writing silly porn fanfics, that's a skill issue on your part.
It is absolutely a creative democratizer if you choose to use it as such.
One thing is that they don'tr really create jobs, and if AI implodes (which it probably will because everyone aside from the hardware manufacturers are either losing money or relying on temporary discounts) then that means there's these massive data warehouses just rotting there
People talk like the AI bubble bursting is going to be the end of it. The Dotcom bubble burst in the late 90s and Internet was still the future. Money is funneling into the technology, because it is going to be the future, in hopes of owning as piece that will get it right. Those data centers that went the wrong direction will get bought up and used by those that successfully navigated this new technology.

i would not trust AI to write unit tests and if it does create documentation i would have to double and triple check it for errors
what AI can be useful for is if you tell it "look at these specs, look at this test suite, write me some code that satisfies the spec and makes all test cases green"

There's a difference between output and jobs though. You can get way more output from fewer workers, which is good for some and less for others. So long as it doesn't make boomers live longer, I think AI is cool.

Of course, but you can review the tests. They should be simple enough. AI works because you can read faster than you write, and most code is repeated, established patterns.
