I work as a janitor and make good money

Conservatives say they don't care, but I just KNOW this will make someone mad.

So I'm a custodian, a glorified janitor, at a state university. I'm about to get a raise of almost $10k a month in July. I already make enough to pay my bills and go out to eat and to the bar multiple times a week. The job requires no college education and the hardest actual work is when I need to shovel snow during a blizzard. Besides all that it's smooth sailing. I have enough to live off of, medical and dental, holidays off, and PTO separate from my sick time.

I was told I would need an expensive college degree, a trade job where I work 7 days a week in the hot sun, or to spend 4 years in alalalalastan in the military to get a job like this, but here I am. When I was a restaurant worker, I was told I don't deserve vacations or weekends off, I had to eat them. Some people seemed obviously mad if someone in a low position even wanted those things, yet here I am and nobody is bitching.

I guess I just bring this up because I wanted to rub it in the faces of Republicans and/or Boomers but that didn't pan out and now I'm wondering...wtf?

OP is autistic but i gave it a like because i work an evening cleaning job for some extra money and it's chill as fuck. no boomers or karens bitching at you. no "we've had complaints" you just clean by yourself and chill #cleanerlife

Assuming you're white, why on earth would you think conservatives would be mad about this? Go back to Reddit.
Have you never touched grass? White or not...well actually white people are more expected to fall for the BS but either way people expect you to grind to a "respectable" position through some bs means.

College should be paid off by taxes (fuck Reagan) and nobody should have to go to war just for a decent life.

Not sure if that $10k/month is what you're making, or if you meant a $10k/year raise, but either way hope you're saving. A decade of aggressive saving can make the rest of your life a lot more secure.

Okay, cool. You make good money cleaning while working for a business that doesn't mind paying you a proper salary.
This isn't unusual or unnatural. For what you can make doing janitor work at a college, or someplace else like a oil and gas site, you can support a household/family. You can live with some hope in your life.
As long as we have an unending stream of migrant wage scabs flooding our countries, these jobs will continue to be under-underpaid and naive/inexperienced people will continue to consider them icky.

You sound like you have a massive chip on your shoulder for no particular reason and are trying to reconcile your bizarre worldviews with your insecurities. Aside from that, being so laser-focused on "Boomers" and "conservatives" on this matter is bizarre.

Stop looking under your bed for the boogeyman and enjoy life.

What country are you making this money in?
Because in the US, you can maybe make half of that as a university custodian and that's after several raises.
Average custodian salary is like $45k per year.

After this raise I will make $50k a year, which is considered "poverty" but it works for me. Apartment rents are down where I am so I can get one of my own, but I don't mind living with roommates for a bit.

No. I'm getting a raise that will add $10k to my annual salary.

So you'll net another 7500-8000 or 650ish/month? If all your needs are met, consider budgeting a grand for something nice, then committing at least $500/month more to investment or savings. If they have a 401k match, do that first.

I have a Pera account. Yeah I got to get on top of my finances though. I'm going carless for a few months, in fact, to save. Good thing I live in a place with transit.
