Ironically enough, Pompey and Cicero, two of the staunchest and most dedicated anti-Caesar Optimates had faced a lot of shit early on their career from their future conservative and aristocratic allies, Pompey was born in poverty and climbed the military ladder until he became Sulla's right hand man but he was always seen as more of a brute than a refined politician by the traditional Senate.

Cicero was born near but not in the city of Rome proper and his family was nothing special or prestigious so when he entered Roman politics he was at times treated like a foreigner, even though he spoke Latin, worshipped the Roman gods, observed and practiced Roman rites and was a fucking lawyer who actively practiced Roman law, he was still seen as lesser due to not being born in a good traditional Roman family or within the city itself.
