Troonslop "Retro" Games / Demake games / PS1 Trannies / ULTRAKILL / Y2K trannies - Retro gaming is infected

In the mid to late 90s, it would be that fat kid that had a CD burner and would first take 30, then 20, and later 10 deutschmarks to burn stuff for you (dropping prices because of dropping media prices).
I just paid the fat kid. Not sure at this point if I ever had a CD burner. I bought a DVD burner in 2005 when building a new PC, and now have five or so of them.
...I've misread "it" in the first post as "I", my literacy is dropping like my already suspended trust in video game journalism.

But yeah, I got my first CD burner around that time. Also on a laptop. Which I also "stole" from my parents.

It's one of those games that drops you into the middle of it with zero information or help, making dying constantly mandatory to learn anything in this game.
Those games can be fun if they allow the player to experiment and stuff, but this one seems to be the type of game to just punish the player for trying anything. You mentioned the type of people who play this type of game, and they’re probably more interested in their misery sim than a fun experience.

I can also see how it can get really tedious to do the same minigames over and over again. Might just be one of those ”sounds more fun/interesting than it actually is” type of mechanics.
Ehh, I don't see that problem with StS.
I meant that Across the Obelisk has way too much of everything in it. Slay the Spire, in my opinion, is the perfect example of how one should handle information in this type of game, for the reasons you stated.
I mean, David Cage himself said that game overs are a failure of game design.

Thread tax but I got this recommended to me
Finally something that is not just a nostalgia-bait platformer but:
>Tarkov leaning and movement
>Siderail attachments and canted aiming
>Shitty music accompanying it
I have decent hopes, it is developed off of a teardown mod but this may just be a low-poly tarkov clone (couldn't even mimic ground branch which has better movement geg).

While we're talking artfag stuff, what has annoyed me most about modern low-poly is how simple and boring their texture choices are. The whole reason PS1 textures were cool to begin with is that they were compressing huge amounts of detail into a tiny little area. That's it, that's the entire reason low poly is cool. If you want good low poly just add more details. Look at this for example

Notice how 2 of these screenshots look great, and one looks like shit. It's all about the detail. This game is "Nightmare Creatures" on PSX, by the way. Famously called "Bloodborne if it were on Playstation". Now let's compare it to Bloodborne PSX

Lol dude. You're getting graphically mogged by a game from 30 fucking years ago because you're too lazy to detail your shit.
You unironically also described the difference between a woman and a Troon lmao life really do be imitatin art and shit

The biggest thing about Mixtape not actually being 90's nostalgia is the way they speak.
I guess KF would call it Redditor speak.

I remember from being a child in the 90's that even the smallest kids used slurs in public and nobody cared.
You could be screaming RETARD and FAGGOT in the middle of a crowded street and the worst thing that happened was someone complaining about you being loud.
When I saw people trying their best to not play the game and have it play itself, I immediately thought of that Beyond 2 Souls game by Cage.

Both that and Mixtape have a section where you have to escape the police in an """exciting""" chase sequence and in both, you can just put down the controller and watch the """gameplay""".

Some cope going "well you an abuse furries in this game, and said furries were created by humans in the first place to do this dangerous job," but anyone with a brain will know this is just bait for the usual suspects to come buy this game in droves to goon to
How much you wanna bet someone will use that crap to say that the game is a brilliant critique of capitalist society, classism and specism and that the game is not torture porn? Because i bet that if the game gets a bit of momentum some will make video essays about it and saying how pulling shrapnel out of your body is a way to symbolize the struggles of being a furfag.

I recently watched someone go through Beyond 2 Souls and probably the only somewhat good thing about David Cage movies is the twist at the end. Everything else is very predictable and to a certain degree, cringeworthy.

Still, in all David Cage films it's essentially as you say: there is no game over to punish you from your inaction. You can go through Heavy Rain by barely pushing any buttons (since you need to walk in som sections of it) and the only punishment that awaits you is a bad ending
Much like this game, its jungle beats/DnB/breakcore combat music
The music makes it sound like it really wants to be Gravity Rush/Jet Set Radio so hard but it falls incredibly short. Tbh the game would have a much better ambience if it had just metal groaning, wind and distant rumbling in order to create the ambience of a desolate place falling apart.

https://youtube.com/watch?v=IDFG4YCNrs8I've also noticed that indieslop is killing the art of combat music. Much like this game, its jungle beats/DnB/breakcore combat music. How the fuck is this supposed to be enticing?
Crazy how he described exactly what I was complaining about. I was worried there would be too many glazers so I'm glad I'm not alone in my criticisms.

I was going to sperg a bit more about the music in my original post. The OST is done by a guy called Pizza Hotline who got really popular after making these mixes on YouTube of Jungle/DnB songs from video games. I'll admit that I've listened to him before for background music while studying, but I wouldn't consider myself a fan. I thought the music was fine for just being background noise, but you're definitely correct that there's no range in emotion.
Here's two tracks from the game: the first is one you normal hear while playing and the second is one of the boss theme.
The OST itself is only 9 tracks long: https://pizzahotline.bandcamp.com/album/motorslice-ost

The Heavy Rain twist was unpredictable because it relied on the twist character gaslighting their own inner-monologue and actions for the entire game about not being said person and somehow having no idea anything that's going on to throw you off lmao. It was a really bad decision to have that as a character

Spoilers for like a 20 year old game lol

The kidnapper/murderer is literally one of the four characters you play as, a detective, who was trying to solve said crimes. You can often hear their thoughts and them talking to themselves. So this guy who has kidnapped and murdered these kids, is wandering around getting actively confused by his own clues while thinking "damn who could have done this that's crazy I hope we find this guy". To himself. In his own head. And then he apparently did a whole bunch of random criming/staging things conveniently offscreen when you're not playing as him, only to come back and be all "WHAT THE HECK?!?! THIS GUY SUCKS!!". It was literally impossible for you the player to solve the crime before the end because of this, which isn't good writing or a good mystery. Being a complete rando would have been better tbh

I did like the game (the only one I liked tbh) but major bruh moment. Press F for ETHAN?!!? SHAAAAAAWN tho

Aww, it's nice to hear such a weirdly high video game comparison. "Women are like PS1 graphics made by people pushing the limits at the time" is the strangest, most autistic way of saying they're art. Men to pooners are the Chrono Trigger and Metal Slug to indie pixel slop too. :heart-full:

I am so tired of autism techno.

It's true. The twist really catches you off guard because you would have never have guessed that detective who constantly has no idea of what is looking at and scratches his head at every clue he sees is actually the culprit collecting any clues that might give him away in order to destroy them.

At least in Beyond 2 Souls the end twist made a lot more sense when you know that the ghost is Ellen Paige's twin stillborn brother that latched to her.

I also really didn't liked Indigo Prophecy.

At this point I wish indieslop would just pick ANYTHING else besides techno and chiptune. Been playing a lot of mewgenics lately which has some very left field musical choices and its been quite a treat. Just pick whatever genre you like and find a way to shove it in there, at least people will remember that one game that had the shitty rap ost or had the nu-country boss music or whatever.

Sounds like prefect game for Null to stream, it cant be any worse then life is strange.

Oh, definitely, just for the dialogue and voice acting alone.
it cant be any worse then life is strange.

EDIT:
By the fucking way... are we going to talk about the fact that Mixtape was funded by Larry Ellison's children?
Ellison is the guy who owns Oracle and co-owns Tesla, Paramount, TikTok and many others, in case you don't pay attention to this shit.

All these perfect scores and a fully licensed soundtrack in an indie game make a lot of sense now.

There are a manifold of electronic music genres that troons could pick instead of Jungle + stock MIDI instruments or chiptune. In fact, I'll name some that are adjacent, suitable for inclusion!

If you want something similar to Drum & Bass, then how about creating some Neurofunk? It's quite a distinct style of Drum & Bass, its focus on a constantly morphing reese bass and darker sound... Oh, wait, that would require actual sound design and automation from trannies. Oh well!
What about IDM? That typically has breakbeats included, dealing heavily with sampling and experimentation... Oh, wait, that still has sound design and would force creativity, that's something that they're unable to accomplish. Oh well!
Hmmm... Maybe Breakbeat Hardcore? That has plenty of unchopped breakbeats combined with a harsh yet usually steady beat... Oh wait, that would necessitate an actually interesting motif and some neat vocal sampling to be pleasing, and furthermore, hardcore kicks are usually too scary for trannies. Oh well!
Well, I've heard some footwork output from trannies, and while writing this, I remembered how incredibly shit it was, so nevermind.

The point that I'm trying to make is that it's impossible for them to do as you rightfully plead. :story: My problem stems from these tracks being far too simplistic to their detriment. You know that it's bad when even mildly challenging irregular time signatures can't save what you've created from being utter mediocrity, as seen with the ULTRATROON soundtrack.

I feel like for a while, there's been this gayop revolving around finding out how little gameplay one can put into a video game and still get away with it. Combined with the ongoing trend of historical revisionism ("the past is the present"), Mixtape is the absolute apex of that gayop. The ultimate gaslighter, too.
Some confirmation bias fuel: since it's estimated that Mixtape may have been in development since 2021, - despite the final result absolutely not looking like it, - it does belong in the same lineup of propaganda titles that have all... very very very very very suspiciously started "active" development around the Corona scamdemic - and took their sweet time for so long they got released way after the lockdowns. Dustborn, Relooted, 1348 Ex Voto, probably a few other skinwalking as indies I forgot about.

So yeah, the gayop, or at least this stage of the gayop, was going on for a few years indeed.

I dunno if Annapurna sourced tax money on top of what's in their bottomless pockets, since Mixtape turned out to be a maximum risk venture (five years "dev" time + mass bribing + collector's editions distributed to genuine cocksuckers + double album's worth of licensed soundtrack) - but I guess we'll find out when there's gonna be news of them restructuring.

I missed this comment and this is something I'm passionate about so here's my take:

None of these fuckers who compose this shit listen to much except crappy EDM.
That translates to them only having very simplistic music tastes and very simplistic ideas when they make music.

Take something like the Final Fantasy games.
You can tell that those composers listened to a lot of different genres that were a lot more complex than whatever the current batch of composers for indie slop are listening to.
FF7 battle themes are like heavy metal tracks done with whatever was available for the PS1 capabilities, so much so that when someone translates it into live instruments, it blows the fucking socks off of you:
