A lot of anecdote and hyperbole. The bureau of labor statistics says the average person spends roughly 15-17% on transportation sure that most likely includes, car repairs, insurance, maintenance. But to have this, and compounding the rising cost of housing, food, inflation in general and tacking that extra couple cents, for a nation that typically drives farther than average to and from work does have an impact. Over a bunch of gay brown people several thousands of miles across the globe, it sucks.
You also dont account for city vs highway driving. Cars get wasted on city driving and waste significantly more gas than just cruising on the highway, most people dont drive 10 miles to and from work, a lot do 10 just to work. Is that 10 just on the interstate? Or is it on a busy street?
Just get a better fuel economy car bro is also a trap. A lot of modern cars have stuff like GDI, 6 gazillion sensors just to maintain the perfect air fuel mixture just so the cheap chinese plastics and metals surrounding can do that 73mpg at the same time typically being designed to be disposed of after 2-3 leases. The most people can afford is a mid 90s to early 2000s honda that maybe gets half to 3/4ths of that, and at least that wont explode the second a wire gets frayed.
It doesn't help I find hybrids really gay, any electrification used to enhance the power of my explosion making machine designed and refined by white people is being poisoned by chink batteries and indian software engineers, the replacement parts cost so much fucking money and are retardedly designed so that mechanics have no choice but to charge more just to change one stupid, useless censor or else the car will refuse to run. Don't even get met started on the battery, both a ticking timebomb literally and for your wallet
I say all this because, I know mechanics in the industry both general and some in BMW & Mazda, who need to get special schooling and training (1-2 years) just to be able to work on hybrid powertrain and EVs as a result they double their hourly. Because of course they would, you are working on a computer more than a car. And its a mess, you as the customer are getting so screwed by both dealerships and car companies.
All those wonderful monthly savings the redditor touts about, while he literally burns money on something he will never actually own both in lease and repair. You are better off buying a naturally aspirated, old school v6/v8 gas guzzler, you keep your self respect, your balls get bigger, you own it and it just works. Parts are cheap, maintenance is so easy and if you give it a shred of care you can give it to your son. Buy a something like a mustang, your testosterone will thank you. I just did my oil yesterday it costed me 30USD and it was as easy as screwing in a lightbulb
