🌟 Internet Famous Linus Gabriel Sebastian & Linus Media Group / Linus Tech Tips - Narcissistic corporate shill YouTuber driving his media empire into the ground. KILL COUNT: 2

Lmao are you talking about Jessica Pigeau? You were the one who first noticed that she got fired like 2 years ago.
LOL you're right, brain no work so good sometimes. She moved on some years ago already and somehow that slipped my mind completely. Just remembered her when looking at all the other fat dysgenics

I checked up on her on Twitter - she has changed her handle to "SexyLilFatBoy". It looks like she does a failed true crime podcast now. Very masculine! Not at all a female dominated interest and field.

it's the sort of thing that has no business on LTT because Linus doesn't care about anything that Framework is trying to do.
I'm surprised Linus didn't do a deal with Framework to make LTT-badged machines. He could easily add a 30% margin on top of the Framework-branded product and the cashed-up niggercattle that make up a substantial portion of his fanbase would eat that shit right up.

When detractors like me gently point out that the Framework machines are exactly the same as LTT machines only cheaper, the seethe emitted by r/LinusTechTips would be enough to power a Badminton center for at least a year.

It'd be win-win.

I wonder if giving Luke 50% ownership of the WAN show shit, is just a way of giving him some kind of lame compensation instead of an actual pay raise.

"Hey, you partially own this thing now that doesn't actually mean anything and isn't worth a shit!" instead of actual money.
If I were a betting man I would put money on Floatplane getting shut down or spun into Nebula this year and Luke needing some replacement compensation.

Does Floatplane have any creators other than LTT and DankPods/James?
There are a number of them, but none are particularly popular gauging by their subscriber info. Because LTT doesn't know how to run a website, visitors are incapable of simply browsing the list of creators without first registering for an account.

Here is an image showing every single one.

Keep in mind that in order to be counted as a "subscriber" to a channel, you have to be paying. Creators set their own rates for subscription costs - so those numbers are active paying members of the channel(s). It also appears that you can hide your number of subscribers, as many of these channels have done.

It's clear from a glance that DankPods is the most popular creator who is not LTT; however, he only charges $1 for a subscription so his number is severely inflated by people who don't care to manage a $1 sub. All of the others are pretty small fish except for ForgottenWeapons, who only posts out of obligation since I am aware that he still posts to YouTube and has another video sharing site that he's more invested in.

For what it's worth, every creator listed here has posted on the site within the last week except ShankMods and whoever DMS is. They seem to have abandoned it entirely.

"IvyComb" is the one that stands out the most to me because they appear to just be a retarded furry who makes fursuits and does VRChat or something.

I love that Leonard French and Tyler McNigger both have languishing channels on here with an extremely small number of subscribers. I hope Tyler McVicker suffers in life.

I suspected it was a situation like that. There's been a relatively constant complaint about how the website doesn't showcase who or what is on it other than Linus. To the point of people calling it out on the LTT forums as bad design, and of course people guntguarding for it and Linus as well.

It's not shown without signing up because they know damned well most people wouldn't bother with that tiny list. I don't think I've ever heard Ian mention floatplane on forgottenweapons but he does list it in the description. The Gun Collective I don't recall mentioning it either but does have a link in their video descriptions. They're clearly not promoting this shit.

I didn't know Jeff Geerling was on there. Given he has about 1M subs on YT, his FP numbers sound quite low.

idk who'd opt for the $1 tier, as all that buys you is some extra Frank content. For the full-fat Trash Network experience including drum streams etc, that's the $2.80 tier (or $25 per year if you pay upfront).

I'm not sure who'd join James' FP though. Apparently all he posts on there is photos of his vintage arcade and game console collection. Maybe his fans just pay for the parasocial relationship? Perhaps I've just answered my own question as to who'd take up the Trash Network $1 tier.

Re. Floatplane, LTT never seemed to shill it like the store. As I can't ever recall them dropping any 'sign up to Floatplane to watch exclusive videos' type messages in their videos. Is this against Youtube TOS advertising an alternative streaming platform?

Forgotten Weapons, Level1Techs, and Mighty Jingles have all mentioned using floatplane pretty much exclusively as a backup location for when Youtube eventually bans them for whatever random reason. Forgotten Weapons actually posts NSFYoutube and uncensored content on Pepperbox.

ShankMods doesn't have that many videos on youtube. He rarely posts, but when he does his videos tend to get at least 1mil views. So it's activity is basically the same. Though not really sure why he bothered posting to floatplane.

https://youtube.com/watch?v=5c1sGzZnuiUI listened to this and it was a waste of time but a good plug for Framework, a company Linus is literally invested in, and they didn't link to Framework anywhere. Linus and his team are incompetent to not even do the basics.

I haven't watched a full Linus video in a long time but I don't remember him being this insufferable and obnoxious. Also too much of this video on Framework is spent on LTT slop.

Framework’s whole pitch was that you could keep upgrading them forever but they’ve dropped that with their new “pro” line. I don’t think this is malicious, but rather them finally running into the real world.

Everyone who has ever built a computer (except Linus) knows that you can’t slap a new CPU in a 10 year old motherboard and that even if you could, you’d be crippling it with slow RAM, limited PCI-E lanes, etc. It makes more sense to just build a new computer and upgrade everything.

What’s the point of an “upgradable” laptop if by the time you need to upgrade it, you have to buy a whole new computer anyways? Framework’s only other reason for existence is modularity, but I bet that most people just get the max number of USB-C ports and use a dock if they need anything else. Their modularity also comes at the cost of having a battery 25% smaller than competitors.

The average person who wants to keep their laptop for a decade would be better off buying a decently-specced MacBook Pro.

It's a weird niche of "prosumers" who think they're smarter than everyone else. You're right about the dropping a new CPU into a 10 year old motherboard, but it gets even dumber than that. Some of these people consider buying the midrange CPU now, then buying the higher end CPU 10 years down the road, that'll also be 10 years old. All while not considering good luck finding new old stock for 10 year old hardware, and after 10 years only getting what would be a middling performance difference.

It's the entire problem with SLI GPUs all over again. As if you were going to buy a voodoo 2 card in 1998, and then magically find some radically discounted 2nd voodoo 2 card for SLI come 2005 and see a performance gain that was worth a shit compared to just buying a new mid range card in 2005 for likely a similar cost and still have a warranty, driver support, etc.

Or the old family member asking "can you upgrade my computer hardware? I heard you can do that" and then handing them a $1000 estimate and saying it'll still be shittier than just spending $1100 on a new laptop.

And of course from a vendor perspective, having to continually produce and stock these upgrade parts for a decade, just eating up inventory space because people might pay absurd prices for them later is just laughable.

I've used a lot of Framworks, and they're better than some of the other popular autist laptops like those from System76 to Tuxedo with respect to not having weird instability issues crop up. Value is completely not there though, and they really are quite limited in the variety of performance/size SKUs they even offer. Port customization is nice but not obscenely valuable. The only neat byproduct of being upgradable/repairable is that you can take apart and re-house older/EoL Framework laptops and use them for homelab stuff, in a way that is much easier than having a tower of thinkpads. You could argue even that is dubiously cost effective, but its fun.

Reminder, Framwork sells DIY kits so you can assemble your whole laptop, and those kits were already pre-assembled into a complete laptop, run through their QA process, then disassembled and shipped to you so you can post on reddit about putting together your adult Lego set. That's their LTT market.

I'm sorry, what? They can't do any QC testing on components without assembling them into the full product first, and then taking it back apart to sell as DIY? There's got to at least be some kind of crazy jig loaded with connectors and pogo pins or something to test the shit without having to fully assemble it first.

>Tech startup
>Jeet owner
Yeah, no way this isn't a scam
Jeet owner or not, Framework has actually shipped products. A lot of scam startups don't even get that far.

I've used a Framework 13 inch with the 13th gen Intel chip as my work laptop for years after my Dell died. I liked how I could get it without RAM or storage and just transfer my existing hardware over to it. It also runs way better than my older Lenovo X1 which had tons of thermal issues. The Framework does hit some thermal throttling, but it's pretty rare no where near as bad as the Lenovo. Plus it's nice not having to pay for a Windows license when I'm on Linux.

Framework’s whole pitch was that you could keep upgrading them forever but they’ve dropped that with their new “pro” line. I don’t think this is malicious, but rather them finally running into the real world.

I wasn't a big fan for their stupid AI desktop either. There's nothing really replaceable on it with the soldered on RAM. That thing seems pretty stupid.

I like my Framework and would still recommend them. They're way easier to get into and repair than a Dell; maybe about the same as a Lenovo. I wish they would open up their USB-C add-ins and try to make it an industrial standard. I don't know if they're any patents on it, but they could easily say they're opening up/not-enforcing patents and try to get others onboard with their dongles. If they could get someone like System76 onboard, we might finally get one more easily interchangeable laptop component.

TBH this is more a limitation of AMD and Intel as they don't sell and let you use/mod sockets on mobile CPU's or I would imagine that framework and some other companies would do too.

The only way for you to do that would be to use a mobile CPU and while you can find some Eurocom, Clevo and other niches brands that makes "laptops" with socketed CPU, they're basically desktop CPU on a mobile form factor which gives you a terrible battery life and with a very hefty price

The framework compromise of upgradability is a very good compromise IMO(not for consumers tho) mainly because they open-source all that they can, so you and other people can build mainboards(https://github.com/FrameworkComputer/Framework-Laptop-16) for their computer without any issue, deep-computing even built a RISC-V one recently https://store.deepcomputing.io/products/dc-roma-risc-v-mainboard-for-framework-laptop-13.

For once the lack of socketed CPU on laptops falls on Intel and AMD BS and not Framework

It has nothing to do with mobile motherboards not using sockets. No CPU that comes out 10 years from now will use a socket that's available today.
