Zoomer Kiwi Central / Serious Gen Z Discussion - A place for Zoomers to have a discussion about the Gen Z and their future

Lucky you! Turns out, the difference between the national mean and median is a simple $900. So now, if you would, do answer my question. How many years of experience should one need, to make median (or mean, your choice) income?

Before 30, much like my parents and everyone before me (and younger the farther back you go). Unless of course, you would suggest that despite greater prosperity than ever before, the most important financial and life state milestone in one's life should be pushed back further

You should be able to invest once you leave the entry level postion, regardless of age. Maybe not invest a lot, but some.

Age 18 at the oldest. An urbanite like yourself can easily use public transport. If your job is not conveniently located 10 minutes away in a big city, a car is a necessity.

I dunno, 30+? I don't really care about vacations; frankly I never even see those listed as complaints. Its a moot point.
I'm not sure why you are so combative. I agree shits fucked I just think some peoples expectations are unreal.

When you have median experience and is of median working age, of couse. Because we live in a gerontocracy and boomers refuse to retire the median will skew upwards a bit but I haven't really looked at the numbers.

My parents were 40'ish when they bought their first house. They did have vacation home before that though. In my cohort of the people I know only one owns a house thanks to an inheritance and one has a vacation house but rents his appartment.

We aren't more prosperous than ever before, that's why everything we need is so expensive. Money go up, line go up but the middle class is shrinking and any efficiency gains since the 70s hasn't left a trace in the paycheck.

The median boomer bought their first house at 28 back in the 80's not the average. First chart I could search up that went that far back. You wanna have a go for the average go nuts.

Because it comes off as extremely dismissive.
I went to college, got a real degree, and graduated with a 3.89 GPA. I have both my FAA licenses. I hold past leadership experience, and and 3 years of previous work in other fields.
I've done everything, done it right, done it well, beyond what was prescribed. Hearing "lol u expect too much" after having gone well above the minimum and the expected when I begrudge the fact that I am paid ~20% below national mean and median, and 25% below industry average is insulting. If a college education, high grades, internships, and previous work experience gets you set up just as well as someone who has done the bare minimum, and complaints are met with "lol u expect too much" it grates on you hard.

How many years of work experience do you have in comparison to the median?

Grades are worth nothing once you get get on the market it's only experience that counts and hopefully ability. In some industries certs are a prerequisite.

No one cares that you were leader of your scout troop. No one cares that you did what they told you.

Do you see how this might be a problem when scaled up to an entire society?
Of course it's a problem. They told me the same thing. Then somewhere in my twenties I realized the people who said grades and education were worth nothing compared to experience, networking and nepotism were right. I consider it a part of growing up.

There is no solution in a democracy where the old fuckers are boomera and the youngsters are libshits. The costs of revolution or civil war are too high to be worth it just yet but we're getting there unless there is reform.

Then why does every single job listing, Hr rep, recruiter, exec, supervisor, and cultural narrative ask for those things, and stress their importance?

Either what I'm being told matters is stupid, or the people that ask for those things are stupid.
There's also of course, the corollary: if all of that is dumb and doesn't actually matter, why both with any of it? Why fool with good grades, leadership, a degree, etc, if it's all ultimately of little to no real value. Thats what us zoomers are hearing. All the right things you were told to do won't bring you success (and in fact its entitled to think so), and are basically worthless, why even bother with any of it?

You didn't explain why these things are a better judging metric than grades, just that they are valued more which everyone already knows

Because schools are shit nowadays and good grades are in no way an indicator of performance at work. Some inexperienced and over schooled people tend to passively wait for work to be assigned rather than find it and to aim for perfection rather than good enough.

If someone can vouch for you that is also good it means you are a known quantity.

There might be lines of work where a high GPA might be relevant after a few years of experience but I doubt it. Elite colleges still carry some weight but they are busy pissing that away too.

I'm not saying how I want it I'm saying how it is. I don't think I could stand a modern HR application process for a big company. School grades should absolutely be indicative of performance but they aren't. How many unintellectual but studious women/girls with good grades do you know?

Do you think students just read books and write essays about what they're studying and never work on projects that emulate what they'll experience at their jobs?

No I have seen 20+ year olds come directly from school and sit there and wait to be told what to do in an internship. You tell them what to do they do it fairly competently and then they wait to be told what to do. They don't experiment with the tools they have, they don't look around and see what other people are doing or just ask if they can tag along, they don't ask for things to do. They wait for work to be assigned to them.

This will be my last post in this thread for a while or until something pisses me off.

I'm sorry to hear about how you had to manage your employees and assign them tasks to complete. Perhaps if you communicated that you wanted him to go find projects he can assist with instead of coming to you after he finishes his assignments you would not be facing this issue.

Nigger, its an internship of course they don't what to fucking do and they essentially have zero responsibilities in the working environment; so what are they supposed to do when nobody gives them directions. Interns are great when their mentor throws them against every problem to gain experience and takes them along to all sorts of things. You can't expect new employees to work like experienced ones. Because you essentially expect an unprocessed cube of metal to cut like a metal knife.

Shits fucked but younger zoomers still have completely fucked up expectations. Life is struggle, it always was.
I used to discuss things with my grandmother (Silent Gen) and greatgrandmother (G. I. Gen) a lot back in the day, the most recent talk was three years ago with the grandma.

Of course life's struggle, no denying that, but zoomers don't have fucked up expectations. These expectations were the future my grandmas were hoping they're building on literal ruins after WW2. Both were saying that things globally indeed started to go slowly downhill around 80s-90s, slowly creeping to the boiling point that was ... first, they thought 9/11 is a peak event. Then 2008 global crisis. Things just kept going downhill and continue to do so. It's funny that both of them were concerned with boomers in power; these people are technically younger than them, but my grandmas weren't retarded and saw this as a major red flag. Gerontocracy built on individuals who, unlike them, didn't live through these major events but leech off of them all the time. And leech of off being raised in a world that offered hope after the worst human made disaster. And getting demented early it seems.

If people who lived through the most horrific war of the XX century and lived long enough to see how the world is changing say that shit's actually bad, then... it's likely bad. Also,
What I'm hearing from hiring managers is that young people just starting out are asking for starting salaries on par with someone with 10-20 years of experience
That's fair, and there are lazy people (always were), however, on the other end we often see people who 100% qualify or even overqualify for a job but are denied it because they lack vague amount of years spent on "experience" in things they can prove by working like, a week tops.

We also live in times where everyone can learn various skills much quicker than in the recent boomer past. Of course people who overqualify but can't even get a small job will either give up or demand more than they "deserve". The system is also still built around old farts and their definitions of "being suitable for a job". I personally had to do up to a half of paperwork related garbage on my own, because these "qualified professionals" who work for 20-30 years in the same field couldn't even do bare minimum of what's required of them and stared at me like it's my problem that I expected them to be competent and didn't do stuff on my own. This too is demotivating and just adds up to disappointment in the whole system.

They don't experiment with the tools they have, they don't look around and see what other people are doing or just ask if they can tag along, they don't ask for things to do. They wait for work to be assigned to them.
That's... That's what employers at internship are supposed to do... To assign specific tasks... To directly train people... Dude. The only thing I'm hearing here is that teachers aren't the only mentors in the society who fail at their skill training jobs.

Also creativity is severely punished even in creative fields, and even moreso in "normie" jobs, especially these days. I'm not sure if it only happens now and became prevalent thanks to odd meme based on hatred towards Zoomers, or if it always existed towards young people, but being "creative" always backfires with "damn these retarded zoomies are at it again".

My old job paid poorly for my field but my new job makes me miss it for the culture alone.
Going from a small crew of mostly older zoomers to a crew of mostly older millenials is rough. Literally all work all the time. They dont really talk about what they did that weekend. I wouldnt say gen x levels of professional expectation but it’s still different than the vibe of a zoomer managed place. Somehow the amount of work getting done stays the same.
Idk i just miss it sometimes.

What threads have the most zoomers even? I always assumed the threads that were created later on past 2020/2021, or generally have more chronically online drama tend to have more zoomers. Whenever I spoke to other people on the art drama threads, they were all mostly gen-Z queers, often joined the site while underage, but aren't anymore. I know a 2006 zoomer groomer who uses, or used this site, I don't got her handle(s) though because she tended to change her handles sporadically.
any cow that's also a zoomer. clav is probably the biggest one and his antics and vocabulary have now become memes that everyone uses.

I don't mean to jump into the thread and seem like I am boasting, but a few days (weeks?) ago I posted how I nuked my job interview. Well, God is good and I got the job! I thought I did super bad (as previously expressed), but evidently I did very well.
Praying and hoping that all of you land something soon that is what you desire and pays a livable wage at least.

For some reason people have this idea interns are supposed to know everything and get really mad when they do not. A failure of an intern to do something is more of a failure on their mentor/manager to train them properly! We should always remember to help those behind us up, not pull the ladder up :)
