The Prequels were poorly directed, but Lucas wanted someone else to direct. Hollywood did not like him and there is a lot of talk about how there was threats to anyone he was trying to court to take the jobs.

But the Prequels really had a lot of soul. They fleshed out and expanded the Star Wars universe really well. A lot of the EU stuff around the Prequels was good, and that wasn't out of nothing. Compare to the Disney Trilogy that have killed the larger picture of the Universe, creating a horribly hollow soulless setting.

Lucas had a vision, but he is more of an ideas man than a writer. He was overly ambitious trying to create a historical epic of a crumbling society falling both due to its own hubris and need for safety. Palpatine developed a 3 film plot to use the Jedi's own inaction against them and slowly push the conflict till the galaxy sold their own freedoms to him. It also had the religious angle of the Jedi being a rules based hierarchy so up their own ass they pushed Jesus into joining the Devil. For all their high positions, it really begs the question if any of them actually believed in the space wizard religion at all and explains why they were wrong about killing Vader compared to Luke.

The graphics were extremely good for late 90s and early 00s. The worlds were all unique, and the character designs were fantastic. If Lucas just got a tard wrangler, unfortunately killed by Hollyjew, they had the potential to be better than the OT. It makes sense why auxiliary material did so well building off the prequels be it the cartoons, games, or books.

I don’t really see Harry Potter as a very consistent saga type series. The books are consistent, but that’s just the source material. With Harry Potter you have different directors, different tones, and even some actor changes. It doesn’t feel as cohesive.

This is also why I didn’t like The Hobbit movies. It feels way too different tonally from The Lord of the Rings to the point it doesn’t even feel like it’s in the same universe. The novels, on the other hand, despite being written for two completely different age groups, feel impressively cohesive (of course, Tolkien was a philologist, so was an expert at that).

Not sure either of them fully got it though. Qui-Gon was the only one wise enough to truly see what was happening, which makes his death all the more painful. Yoda and Obi were both wrong about multiple things and would often just let shit happen, or go base instinct in both OT and PT. Reminder that even knowing the prophecy, only Luke (who didn't) believed Vader would save the Galaxy.

A hypothetical sequel trilogy would be heavily built around Luke actually fixing Space religion, bringing the spirituality back, which the original order clearly lacked in favor of emotionless politics.

I have no issues with us bombing Iran, but I wished that we didn't have to base it and present it as being for the benefit of Israel to make it happen. I also am loathe to have us open up opportunities for protracted land engagements as the US Government has a retarded love affair with regime change and boots on the ground.
