Iran’s IRGC says Strait of Hormuz is open for passage of non-military vessels in accordance with specific regulations, but military vessels attempting to approach the Strait under any pretext will be considered in violation of the ceasefire and will be dealt with harshly. All this means is, "All non-military vessels can use the Strait, but they still have to pay us a toll." It's just a slight change in the status quo, and therefore utterly meaningless and should be ignored if Trump really wants to squeeze these guys. Anything other than, "all non-military vessels will not be targeted or tolled for using the Strait" is a non-starter.

Again, this is just the Euros trying to pretend they're doing something to mitigate the situation--nothing material except endless meetings and meetings about the meetings. However, it also should be an indicator that Hegseth needs to start declaring any comms or reports related to the operation is now NOFORN, except in cases where cooperative info-sharing needs to be conducted with Israel and the GCC for situational awareness and deconfliction. There's just too much risk now that they will start passing along whatever they can to the IRGC in order to keep them propped up as long as possible.

What cope? The purpose of a blockade is one of two things: blocking imports and blocking exports. Blocking one outlet when there are two doesn’t accomplish that objective.

If there is a different strategy, then I am all ears.

I guess "blockade" is sexier than "sweep for mines that were never actually planted and assert functional control to get the insurers to pull the sticks out of their asses" but that's my guess, the Florida Fish and Wildlife cops have more advanced weapons systems than the Iranian navy at this point, with the exception of deceptive video editing.

It's simple, Iran can't just turn a dial and divert all oil across the Caspian for resale by Russians and everyone claps and theyre saved.

Iran’s export terminal at Kharg Island accounts for nearly all of its 1.6 mb/d average export volume.

Literally nothing Iran has been doing has been rational. Only complete and utter defeat and humiliation can break them. Being able to point and say ‘We sell to Russia hahaha stupid Americans’ will be enough to keep them afloat. We are dealing with the Pharaoh of Exodus here, not Neville Chamberlain.

because 90% of Iran's exports leave through the strait not the Caspian, because the countries that will want to see those exports (like china) don't get it through the caspian and this will increase pressure on Iran from them as well.

This isn't a situation of "well you blocked one outlet so it's just all going to go to the other one" the "other one" in this case doesn't function at the same level, and doesn't get imports and exports to and from the same places.

The caspian being there doesn't "defeat the purpose" of the blockade any more than the fact that Iran has land routes into turkey would defeat the purpose, which is to say, it doesn't defeat it at all.

That doesn't change the fact hardly anything in the grand scheme of things gets done there, let alone enough to support 90 millon people who god willing, won't have any power and water soon thanks to Israel. All their ports and pipelines are there to be blown up as needed, whatever it takes to fold them up.

Especially democracies, which European countries are. Trump destroyed the nuclear capability after all, so that's not something to worry about.
