Creepy Unsolved Mysteries - From unsolved murders to unidentified people to unexplained supernatural events, what are some of the creepiest unsolved mysteries you've ever heard of?

Also people in crashes usually react by going tense. Drunks are too drunk to do that, and that perversely results in them often being less harmed.
There's a case...Patricia Meehan. She apparently crashed and got out and disappeared. A camera was found and she took what could be one of the first selfies (not counting the 1800s ones)
It was pretty famous in Unsolved Mysteries episode back in the day. Sadly she has never been found.

The family speculated she got disoriented and dazed because of the accident.

Somerton Man aka "Tamam Shud" case fascinates me: a man who never existed died in ways that shouldn't be possible, and his body was randomly found on a beach. This happened right at the start of the cold war, so one wonders if anything shady was happening that led to his death, I guess we will never know.
The latest theory is that he was a Victorian man called "Carl Webb" and he suffered from mental health issues. I don't know if DNA testing has confirmed it yet, though. He was born in 1905, and living through two world wars and the Great Depression did a number on him (and everyone else, for that matter)

An even better book about it is In Broad Daylight. Really comprehensive look at his crimes.
I also read that there's a movie from 1990 about it with Brian Dennehy and I really want to see that film.

Second this. It's a good book, although frustrating that no one shot the cunt sooner.
Considering his widow kept defending him, it sounds like she had a major case of Stockholm Syndrome. The even crazier part of that documentary was his daughter openly admitting there was abuse from Ken, but that he still didn't deserve to die.

His widow tried suing the town and various people from there, and her house burned to the basement one night when she was gone. She left the area not long after, IIRC.

She was real white trash, and helped Ken with many of his crimes. But it's not all her fault, he started raping her when she was very underage and threatened to burn her parents' house down if she didn't go along with it. I recall, the book had some pages of photos of her and the kids, and they all looked like absolute trash.

Was this not confirmed? I remember some news that he was identified.
Maybe the testing was dubious?

it's been a while since i read about this piece of shit but if i remember correctly he also shot and killed her parents dog when they protested him raping their 13 (i think she was 13) year old daughter. afterwards they got a new dog and he once again shot and killed it. in the words of the townspeople, he "needed killing".

She and the daughter both tried to say that he didn't burn the house down.....while ignoring that he burned TWO of their houses down, and neither of them acknowledged that it was more than one.

The wife claimed faulty mechanics....so did both homes have faulty mechanics? How convenient.

She also ran away with Alice, then Ken went after her, and the rest is obvious. What's crazy to me is the daughter openly saying on camera "he didn't burn down the houses. My mother told me so."

IIRC he was identified through genetic genealogy from some hairs in his death mask but Aussie police won't confirm his identity for some reason.
Maybe his descendants requested anonymity. It would suck absolute shit to have hordes of denim-jacketed fat bitches with cat's eye glasses and bettie page haircuts swarming your house asking for selfies with you because they're fans of your grandfather's corpse.

It’s Saturday, February 17th, 2018 at roughly 2:00 am. 20 year old Ryan Shtuka is at a house party on Burfield Drive in Sun Peaks, British Columbia. Sun Peaks is a resort town 56 kilometres (~35 miles) northeast of Kamloops. Ryan has worked there as a seasonal lift operator since the 1st of December. Ryan grew up in an upper middle class family in Beaumont, Alberta which is immediately south of Edmonton. He played hockey since childhood and snowboarded every winter. Living in a ski resort is a dream for him. He had bragged to his father that he snowboarded for 36 days straight and had completed his first back flip on a snowboard.

Ryan’s friend Chris is leaving the party with his girlfriend. Ryan and Chris both work for the resort and rent rooms in the same house on Sun Peaks Road which is only 250 metres (~820 feet) from the house party as the crow flies. If one walks northeast to the intersection of Burfield Drive and Sun Peaks Road, and then turns west, it is a 700 metre walk. That’s less than half a mile, but it might be unnecessary. Between the two streets is a snowy forested stretch with a paved and plowed walking path. Cutting through and taking the path is barely more than 250 metres.

Annotated map.png

Chris and his girlfriend leave at approximately 2:10 am. Ryan is putting on his light jacket and boots as they walk out the door. They take the long route rather than blazing a trail through the snow-covered forested stretch. When they reach the intersection, they notice Ryan is not following them. They assume he hasn’t left the party yet. They’re not worried. Ryan is 186 centimetres (6’1”) tall and weighs ~80 kilograms (180 lbs). He’s an athlete who drinks and parties regularly. He can take care of himself.

Ryan doesn’t show up for his shift the next morning. His boss knows his housemates and begins calling them. They realise he never made it home. Calls to his phone go straight to voicemail. After confirming he didn’t stay at the site of the house party, they call local hospitals. The hospitals tell them to call the local Royal Canadian Mounted Police detachment. Uncharacteristically, the RCMP take the matter seriously. The previous night had reached lows of -26°C (-15°F) and there was around 15 centimetres (~6 inches) of snow fall. They alert local search and rescue. Being a popular tourist destination, the area has a well staffed and funded search and rescue organisation that is soon able to mobilise dozens of professionals and volunteers.

RCMP investigators interview Chris, his girlfriend, everyone at the party, people who were at the bar Ryan and Chris had visited for a silent disco on the night of the 16th, they knock on ever door in the neighbourhood. No meaningful leads are found. Everyone agrees that Ryan put on his coat and boots at 2:10 am and left to catch up with Chris.

Ryan’s parents drive in from Beaumont and are soon all over local news. They’re respectable people. His dad is a successful small business owner and his mother is good at public speaking. The news coverage spreads across the country and people from all over Western Canada turn up to volunteer. They find nothing. The initial assumption is that Ryan cut through the forested patch to save time since he really was dressed for the weather, and fell into a snow well at the base of a tree. Every tree is checked. They find nothing. Tracking dogs are brought in. They find nothing. After a few days of searching, the RCMP urge all local residents to check their garages and sheds. Cadaver dogs are brought in. They find nothing.

Not a trace of Ryan is found. The search is called off until spring. People who go missing during the winter are often found when the snow finally melts. It’s not at all uncommon. The freezing temperatures delay decomposition and its odours, new snowfall masks scent trials. Weeks after his disappearance, a text from Ryan’s phone comes through to Chris. It’s timestamped 2:30 am on the 17th and says he’s right behind them. Attempts to ping his phone and use cell towers to track it are unsuccessful. Searches resume months later when the snow melts. They find nothing.

By this point Ryan’s parents have given up their lives in Beaumont and permanently relocated to Sun Peaks. They appear on news stories, podcasts, and even a documentary dedicated to their son’s case. The closest thing to a worthwhile tip that comes in is a guy who lives on Burfield Drive claiming that he once heard someone yell “get in the fucking car” on what he thinks was the night Ryan went missing at around 2:00 am. No one else heard it of course.

I drove through the area where Ryan went missing last week. The missing persons billboards are still up and maintained throughout the region. According to his parents and police, not a single trace of him has ever been found. Every tip sent in was a dead end. He simply vanished that night.

The Leatherman, an American vagabond from the 1800's who captured the attention and imagination of the country. His identity and origins were never discovered.
https://youtube.com/watch?v=z-SXFVLnV-4I've heard stories that Leatherman Tools got their name from him, but that's probably just a folktale.

Reminds me a bit of the Catman of Greenock in Scotland. https://www.scottishdailyexpress.co.uk/news/weird-news/what-happened-catman-greenock-25214387.amp

I was glad to read that locals were largely kind to Leatherman. I guess it helps, he was just odd and not a menace. I also just love a unique urban legend and reading about attempts to determine its origin.

Bunnyman Bridge is another one: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bunny...ncident was reported,I have your tag number."

Yikes. And this guy's a lawyer?
You must not have been here very long if you’re surprised that a lolyer says some stupid shit.
Hmm…going through the Canadian missing persons checklist:

✅ Missing in rural British Columbia
❌ Not First Nations
✅ Potentially last seen with an unknown white man
✅ RCMP bungles the case by initially not taking it seriously (do they ever take anything seriously?)
✅ Drugs or alcohol may or may not be involved
❓Tim Horton’s may or may not be involved

I lurk the Bigfoot subreddits and love listening to podcasts where the ‘witnesses’ are either insane or fucking with the host. Favorite story was from some Appalachian hillbilly saying he knew some old woman who ran a sorta Bigfoot daycare where the babies ate pop tarts and cereal and watched Sponge Bob. He then went on about how he thought one of the lady bigfoots was attractive.

Editing to add that is Bigfoot was real I actually don’t think it’s far fetched that a man would wanna fuck one.

Sadly you are right considering there's at least one confirmed case of a shaved orangutan being used as a prostitute. I even heard one weirdo talking about how a female bigfoot had a crush on him. Bigfoot fuckers are 100% real.

Anyway, there's a lot of clamor right now about that Patterson-Gimlin bigfoot film due to the documentary Capturing Bigfoot. I always thought the footage looked fake. There was a documentary years ago where they reenacted it with an ape suit and showed you how it was totally possibly for a human to walk that way. As for the boobs on the suit apparently Patterson had sketched several breasted bigfoot figures in the past. Perhaps he thought if the bigfoot was female people would pay more attention and be less likely to think it's just some idiot in an ape suit.

It is a pretty good ape suit. But that doesn't mean it's probably a real bigfoot. Patterson may have just been that dedicated. If there are witnesses that attested to one or more test suits then he was definitely at it for years trying to perfect his craft. There was more than one suit and multiple tries with different crafters and materials if all those testimonies are to be believed. Plus the film is grainy and the ape suit does not have to look perfect. It just has to look enough like Bigfoot to make idiots believe.

I read up on her case and I agree with you. There are three questions I have about her:

1. Why did she leave her child and her friend at their hotel to go to Edmonton? Some heavily downvoted posts on Reddit suggest she was getting drugs and/or turning tricks as Amber was known to do. The official Reddit-approved narrative is that she wanted to save money by hitchhiking ahead of her friend and her child, which makes no sense. Again this hitchhiking happened in the middle of the night, not during the day. I tried searching more about Amber’s proclivities and got a thoroughly scrubbed search tsk tsking me about stereotypes of indigenous women.

2. There was a call that was recorded where she was in a vehicle with an unidentified voice which may have been from the killer. The reason why this call was recorded is because she was talking to her brother who was in prison. Prison calls in Canada are recorded. Only one minute has been released out of 17. The RCMP hasn’t released the remaining 16 minutes and nobody seems to be keen to release those other minutes. So why was she talking to her brother in prison at night while she was in some random guy’s truck? Once again, none of the Reddit sleuths and troo crime advocates want to know more about this.

3. There’s a sex offender, Pat Carson, who keeps getting in trouble and owns a ranch near the area. The RCMP claims he has been repeatedly cleared. Nobody wants to provide a description of Carson which makes me wonder if he’s a First Nations guy. We are supposed to be scared of him but nobody can tell us anything about him.

I look forward to your post!
