If a Muslim or Hindu made some religious reference these people wouldn't give a shit but because they're mad at Christianity and western culture for existing; they're unable to treat these religions with the same level of respect. Frankly, who gives a shit? So what if they made a reference to Jesus or whatever? That's what they believe in and they can say whatever they want.
What does this have to do with politics?
The reason religion is still prevalent in scientific circles today is because the smart ones believe in the Intelligent Design theory. In layman's terms, the theory says that the universe is so perfectly logical and yet perfectly suited for life that an intelligent being must be behind its creation. If atheists could read anything that wasn't about superheroes, gay sex, or circlejerking reddit posts, they might understand this.
