His lawyers are trying to cut a deal where he can be released in Costa Rica. Apparently he can't return to his home country because gangs want to kill him. When trying to investigate why any international drug cartel would care about a random Maryland man, nobody has an explanation. I also don't understand why Costa Rica is a better option than El Salvador because both of the gangs he is claiming want him dead have a presence there.
