i meant it more as a general comment than as a direct reply to the scenario you were mentioning. with that being said, and i do agree that kharg island would be beneficial for us, personally i would view any ground force deployment as a betrayal of promise. by ground force deployment i mean actually deploying regular military forces to achieve a goal on foot. i don't really consider sending in a seal team to whack someone or skyhooking the new towelhead in charge (would be funny imo) as a ground force deployment since it would be more of a special forces kind of action.

Capturing Kharg will require an occupation force, since we'd be the ones administering the Island, but it would just BE American, and we've already softened up the Island to the point where it doesn't seem like they actually have any ability to even deploy their own forces there now, since one of the major targets of our strike on it was the Airstrip.

We wouldn't be doing nationbuilding or anything like that, there would be no 'We're saving it for the Persians.' This would be an imperialist action to obtain new permanent American land (and sea).

I was born and raised in the US and I have lots of family that are military. Anyone calling me Chinese is just mad that they've got no answer to what I'm saying to them and is realistically Latino or Irish and is mad that I'm from white stock that is actually desirable.
