It occurs to me that they are probably going to want to reference Rifftrax, since they're calling it the Rifftrax Experiments and that's still their primary source of revenue and what they all have a stake in. Fortunately Shout seems to be on very good terms with them, selling MST3K on their site and all, and would be willing to let them reference it in the show.

Here's what I'm thinking: the original ending is canon, Mike and the bots went on to found Rifftrax, and "Bill" and "Kevin" have been fake this whole time, because nobody would ever want to listen to riffs made by robots. (Maybe Gypsy via ConGypsCo used early AI to make Bill and Kevin, or maybe not, if they want to avoid the quagmire of how people feel about AI.) Then you just need a reason that Pearl resurfaces. Maybe she's mad that they've gotten old and lazy making fun of easy movies, and frames this selection as REALLY truly bad movies that will finally break their brains.

I want the whole thing to start and go on like nothing happened. Then at the end Mike suddenly starts awake in a chair in an unfamiliar office space, panicking, beside Bill and Kevin.

"Kevin! Bill! Thank goodness! I dreamed I was actually stuck in space watching terrible movies!"

"Calm down, Mike, it was just a dream. Now come on, we still haven't even gotten halfway through finishing the Batman vs Superman riff."

"Noooooo!"

End.

Calling it "lore" makes it sound more lofty than I meant. It was really more of a thought that they're going to want to advertise Rifftrax as part of these episodes, and might as well make it part of the story they tell in the host segments.

Better option: Pearl's granddaughter ran off with her magician boyfriend and Pearl took over the experiments again. Mike meanwhile misses being on the Satellite of Love/being made to watch bad movies and is approached by Pearl to come back as a test subject with the lure of reuniting with the bots.
 
In Rifftrax, I recently started listening to the Mary Jo/Bridget installments on "Inspector Mom", the first two movies are standard made-for-TV stuff but the more recent installments are edited together "webisodes" where the makers were clearly struggling with a budget that seems to be lower than "local cable access TV show" and the plots and the contrivances to involve the main character in the mystery get thinner and increasingly unhinged.
 
Also, listened to the episode 372 Pages where they wrap up "The Mayor of Noobtown" - soon to be published in paperback by HarperCollins, which Nelson and Lestowka were bowled over by, as they remark constantly on moments that point to this being worthy of being print. including moments that involve the little demon character dubbed "Shart" by the hero. There's also a little mention at the beginning that the Rifftrax writers were together in person recently, as they worked on the MST3K experiments, as opposed to spending a lot of time messaging and video-ing, etc. and joking about working together with Corbett and Murphy and Beulieu and Conniff stopping by, and feeling productive and firing on all cylinders and then going home to finish reading "The Mayor of Noobtown".

Below you can see the number of viewers for each, that have stayed at that ratio. Make of that as you will.

I don’t hate Joel purists, At the end of the day, we still all champion the same IP. But I will always be a Mike-Chad, and that’s all I have to say about that.
 
It doesn't even have to be about the hosts, it can just be how the writing matured over time, or having a higher budget from sci-fi to get licenses for better cheesy movies and not endless black and white mushmouthed shit.

Y'know they keep saying things like "MST3K was more family friendly, at Rifftrax we don't have to adhere to any broadcast standards so we've been a little more fast and loose with swearing and sexual content, but we'll be dialing it back to the family friendly MST3K you remember."

Except I've been watching a lot of old episodes and they're constantly making gay jokes, trans jokes, sexual innuendos (usually of the kind to go over children's heads), fat shaming, elderly shaming, ethnic hazing of places like Canada and Japan and Malta...with writers like Conor already whitewashing that stuff off Rifftrax, and yet they think they need to go even tamer? I feel like they should watch their own show again to nail the vibe...

Even really minor things like making fun of dudes for being effeminate or "mincing" around would be seen as anti-gay jokes today.

My MST3K collection is now complete, over 20 years after I began archiving episodes. I never thought we'd find all the missing KTMA episodes.

Same. KTMA was one of my favorite seasons, and one of the first that I watched of mst3k. The monster stuff was always my favorite, and Superdome.
 
For the people that have never seen the KTMA years, here's the sales tape for the show from November 1988:


It's a segment from the pilot episode which was considered lost until a few years ago.

Here's a commercial for the show and a couple that aired during the show. The announcer for the Joel Hodgson stand up show should sound familiar.

they put out MST Scrapbook a lot more than a few years ago, shit, I should see if we still have the cam of the beta version from the first conventio-con

I was telling my dad about how the last tape got circulated and we were talking about the new Mike season, he asked a good question
What channel/site/etc is it going to be on?
