The funniest thing I remember regarding COVID is how much Trump was initially pro-vaccine (to the point that he was the one to push Operation Warp Speed) and the Right supported him while the Left was against him. But after all the shit that happened over the next few years under Biden, there was a switch in the positioning of the two groups. To the point that when in 2024, Trump tried to mention he was the one who pushed Operation Warp Speed and was pro-COVID vaccine, he got booed by the crowd. After that, he pretty much shut up about any and all of that.

That could actually backfire

Oil infrastructure in the USA is generally set up to handle heavy crude, but most of the oil they extract now is light shale crude. They generally export light shale crude to refineries in Asia and Europe, and import heavy crude from other parts of the Americas (and some gulf states).
So unlike the 70s, this would be forcing refineries to work on crude they're not set up for, resulting in lower yields, while increasing the barrel cost of other crude oil, so the stuff they want would get more expensive... so ironically it could result in higher prices at the gas pump for US consumers.
There's a level of nuance there that would likely go over Trump's head, however, so he still might do it in a fit of pique.
