It's one of the oldest region in the world when it comes to Human history. A massive part of my interest for Iran comes from the old ruins of the Achaemenides empires. Especially the ruins of Persepolis and the tombs of Naqsh-e Rostam, they looks absolutely massive and I want to see them from my own eyes, one day.

the war has escalated into bombing each other's oil and gas infrastructure, so its not just that the route is closed, the places that extract and process those fossil fuels are also rendered offline now for the medium term, this something the United states does NOT really want judging by how Trump told the Israelis to not fucking do that and now Iran is doing the same to the other gulf countries.

The Ruins of Persepolis are on my bucket list. Ive done Rome, the Acropolis and Delphi. Persepolis is up there for people interested in ancient history, as is Irans own national antiquities museum. Ive thought about doing Egypt too, but from what I have heard it fucking suuuuuuucks. Not because the sites arent interesting but because the government, locals and tourist swarms make the experience unbearable.
Even if the IRGC survives this, they've played their hand and now I question their ability to play it in the future.
I've heard the same. A friend of mine travelled there 10 years ago, and he explained to me how it was almost required to have cash to stop being bothered by the airport guards.

I was in Iran in 2019 and it was fantastic, saw all the historical sites. They are all clean, well-maintained and no one(!) goes around harassing you. Iranians care a lot about their own heritage, and it shows.
As far as I know, Iranians are a very friendly people, I've never heard of anyone disliking it, it looked clean and secure even as far as one year ago.
The problem with this plan is that long term it bolsters their morale. For the same reasons as you feel your enmity.
