i think the US would not allow a naval blockade of taiwan to be set up in the first place.

but the noble families that run the gulf monarchies really despise islamism. they know that the "get filthy rich for almost no effort by selling oil" thing their countries have going is insanely good, it enables their countries to live better than most of the world, it makes them wealthier than many first world countries even, and they barely have to lift a finger to keep it going - but the islamists present a threat of ruining it all. left to their own devices, islamists would throw these countries down a very dark hole, they could go from switzerland tier wealth and abundance to lebanon tier suffering and deprivation very quickly.
