Look, civil service requires vast amounts of transparency, however,
national defense does not. If you read the entire premise of why the founders wanted a strong executive, you'd realize why security clearances and secrecy are baked into the office of the President.
There is no law or court case to ever even suggest that the Pentagon must allow literally
any journalists in. Allowing literally anything is a
courtesy not a requirement. Securing information is the entire fucking premise of the powers held by the military. Now, ensuring that publishers will follow the rules for operational security before even setting foot on the premise of a
Military Instillation is not only important for obvious military reasons, but also legally being a way to follow the outcome of New York Times Co. v. United States (1971). The government can not censor military secrets after the fact, but they can censor them prior to publishing, and enforce it via having willing journalists sign on to specific limited security clearances. Something which, I must remind you,
WE DIDN'T FUCKING REQUIRE BEFORE. There is literally nothing more stupid than leaving bloodlusting anti-American psychopaths that are journos free fucking range to the SINGLE MOST IMPORTANT MILITARY INSTILLATION IN THE WORLD.
You may not remember, but all of the journalists that left huffily did so because
they could no longer freely roam the building where classified secrets were held. And couldn't even do the bare minimum of letting the military check that fucking government secrets aren't being weaponized by some faggot from CNN (Chinese), or Russia Today (funnily enough also Chinese), or Al Pedophileworshippers (Muslims). Literally we let our enemies into our most important institutions because of 'free press' to the point of idiocy. The press are not allowed to do literally whatever the fuck they want, they should have limitations, and should be reasonably responsible with what they want to publish on the basis of not knowingly and supporting the killing of our poor kids.
Anything that stops "Oh I hope the [COMMUNIST BACKED TERROR GROUP] don't murder all of these fresh babyfaced recruits in this specific region, at this specific time, doing these specific things. Oh what a tragedy it would be!" is a good thing. I'm nigh a Free Speech absolutist but I'm not retarded enough to arm my enemies with my ideals, and doubly not retarded enough to view the military as a policing institution instead of the most important function of the State:

Look, I get why you might not like it, it's a change from a more """liberal""" era, but can you at least understand that it's both A: not anti-American, and B: reasonable? I feel like I say this a lot, but please read the Federalist papers. They're the bedrock for how the executive, which the war department fall under, operates in it's most unchanged state compared to other forms of our institutions.
