Going by the numbers, I'd probably say no.

Getting 40 Delta captured would be catastrophic. There are around 4 assault squads, and each has 2 troops. 40 JSOC soldiers captured would be likely 1 full troop plus augments. Mind you, Delta and JSOC have global responsibilities so there wouldn't be more than 2 squads in CENTCOM operating in Iran. They are capable of, and practice tons of risk mitigation and also don't speak Farsi for the most part. At most, I imagine them embedded with the Kurds in Iraq, but not going deep into Iran. Besides, if they were captured, we'd be seeing their photos and their jock and trashy tattoos all over the net.

So I think the news is fake and gay. The war is still the dumbest thing Trump did tho and getting a good result in Venezuela with Delta was likely what made him feel like he was unstoppable, so they are partly responsible for the mess. Thank you, Chris "the Count".
