It's the heart of the cardboard that I'm crashing out over homie. Majority of these competitive retards in this thread worship Konami, they worship judges and their rulings, they worship digital online non-social play, they worship "the meta", they worship winning. They are Godless.

What they should be worshiping is Kazuki Takahashi, his love of boardgames and in-person socialization and connection and friendship through getting together and having fun playing, the spirit of the original Yu-Gi-Oh! manga and its drama and entertainment that came from playing with inefficient decks and experimental rules, the playground well-of-fun that this franchise had when it was at its peak, when people legit believed it was the next Pokemon.

F-U-N should be their God, not winning.

I mean, my interest in the game is solely competitive, and yet I'm hoping the collector side improves with these overframes so I don't need to take out a mortgage for new staples. Winning is fun, but I want to afford the game, which I can't do unless Konami does this new gimmick right (i.e. never ever reprint them).

What happens to the collectors matters for us too.

Hmmm, I don't know what's gonna happen, but I'd be worried of the "rising tide lifting all the ships". Yu-Gi-Oh! is arguably at some of the cheapest it's ever been right now, in 2025- I'd be willing to bet that if the overframes do manage to inject some interest into the Yugiconomy it won't exclusively mean high prices for collectors, low prices for players, but higher prices for both. Time will tell

It's cheaper, but it's all relative. In any case, there's an easy strategy to employ by Konami. When they drop a new archrtype, print an extremely limited number of serialized overframes within it. I'm talking like a hundred of each maybe. Then print a few more standard overframes. The cards we need shouldn't be the chase cards just because we need them (or a playset), it should also be because they're collectible in a way other copies aren't. I can be happy affording the game with poor people copies. That's how I'd hope they proceed in any case.

I can be happy affording the game with poor people copies. That's how I'd hope they proceed in any case.

This reminds me of another negative element that the hyper-competitive culture of Yugioh creates:
The modern Yugioh player is repulsed by the idea of proxies, while with MTG for example, they have entire systems for cheaply printing decent proxies for cheap play, talking at like 0.25 per card irrespective of the card rarity value, secondary market price. Check out this whole-ass website MTG has for quickly creating large list of proxies and then proceeding to order cards to the tune of ~600 different cards (no repeats):

I think the #1 recommendation for such an endeavor if you're limiting yourself to official Konami product is the Speed Duel line:
- Midterm Paradox is insanely cheap, but so many of em are great like Battle City Finals, Streets of Battle City, Duelists of Shadows
Do your homie a favor and give him handicap in terms of either the skills, give him the best ones and-or don't use any yourself + Let him play with alternate format ideas that speed duel suggested like:
- Double Up! where Duelists are allowed to use 2 Skill Cards instead of 1
- Contact Fusion! where "Polymerization" is not needed to perform a Fusion Summon when using Fusion Materials on the field.
- Monster League where all Monster Cards are treated as all monster Types while in the Deck, Extra Deck, hand, GY, field, or banished.

Anyways, it's seeming like the new 'Legendary Modern Decks 2026' are really good bang-for-buck, since you're more budget focused. Might wanna give it a look:

Additionally, if they behave at all like the 5Ds Legendary Decks did, might wanna wait a bit until they crash down to the ~$27-28 after the hype dies down. However, with how good the value is, and that apparently everywhere except USA-English is going to experience delays on this exact product, maybe sooner is better for price than later? Who knows..

Even English language OCG cards are considered proxies and not allowed at an OTS.
When sets started getting printed for Asian English again, I pulled a couple of boxes to get some cards in the higher quality OCG foiling but I can't ever play with them at my LGS.

1: Genex has an insane link 1 now that basically gives you infinite normal summons, and a synchro that can plausibly give you 7 moster negates, Arcana force can now turn skip trivially and the fiend is just a good card, Nordics also have a good link 1 that makes the deck work and allows you to cheat their boss monsters out.
2. Pisstina, Fartmage, and Assened aren't necessarily dogshit when looking at every archetype in the game, but they're all pretty bad by modern deck standards.

Ediit: What has actually just crossed my mind as being probably the shittiest "modern" archetype is appliancer.
