I'd say more so between the wars, with the Paris expat scene (Gertrude Stein and her clique, Henry Miller, etc.). I think by the 60's a lot of that goodwill had evaporated given French failures in Indochina leading to US involvement in Vietnam.

A large portion of the current hatred for the French is from their inaction during the GWOT era and having to clean up their mess in Indochina. But even back in WW2 there were tensions on a political and military level.
