Early Eurythmics were on the cutting edge of all the sub genres of that era including post punk, with synth, into new wave, definitely some goth & other underground elements. So nice to see so many tracks from In The Garden, their masterpiece, imo, with my favorite track from it being Belinda:Surprise entry: early Eurythmics were often verging on ambient/synth/goth. As a rivethead I am not too proud to admit that ‘In the garden’ and ‘1984’ had some absolute bangers. If you listen to the whole albums you can hear influences from Bowie, Siouxsie Sioux, Joy Division and Bauhaus.
I seriously considered including Belinda in my post but I only wanted three from each album, and it didn’t quite make the cut.my favorite track from it being Belinda:
Oil & Gold is a masterpiece. I have no idea how they went from that to Go Bang, which was such shit I totally lost interest in the band. One of my best friends is an old-school goth club-night promoter and DJ who’s recently held a few ‘comeback nights’. I dropped this one on him that he’d totally forgotten about and now it fills the floor every time.
I heard this for the first time a while ago and was shocked that I had managed to miss another mondo gothy spooktrack from everyone's favourite gibberish Gaels:One of the best bands i've ever heard alongside Cocteau Twins
