Nothing of interest is happening. Mostly cargo planes flying about. There's a KC-135 flying off the coast of Qatar.
Today I have seen a real focus on picking up cargo from Fort Hood and hopscotching it across the Atlantic into theater.
Specifically, the C-5 traffic has focused on Fort Hood. I find that of particular note because we typically don't move stuff via C-5 unless we have to because of the size, weight, or re-assembly requirements (there are a lot of things that
could be broken down to fit on other aircraft but the time to re-assemble would be too long for mission requirements).
We have over 200 C-17s between all the Air Force active and reserve components and approximately 50 C-5s. C-5s notoriously break down so the number of mission capable C-5s is some fraction of that.
What they're picking up from Hood, I'm not sure. Fort Hood has some amount of about anything the Army has to offer -- armor, aviation, artillery, air defense, medical, logistics, etc. They also have the busiest railroad terminal in the Army so it might not even be equipment maintained by a Fort Hood unit but shipped there from other installations.
I also just saw one of the C-17 RCH flights departing Fort Huachuca which would probably be some kind of SIGINT or other ISR equipment.
