I would never fly in the LTT jet, even for free, because I could not let myself in my final seconds die because cheap fag Lienus didn't get the right person to maintain or fly the plane.

For future reference, what is the best cable maker for quality?

You would only really have to test the LTT cables, anything that has USB-IF certification has been tested successfully and meets the required USB spec, which includes things like compatibility and durability, not just that the cable is meeting the expected speed and charging power advertised.
Okay, what is the threshold for USB-IF certification? Going back to the DisplayPort cables from the Level1Techs thread, the JCE cable they've rated as 'trash'.

On the JCE web site they list USB-IF amongst a bunch of other things on their 'Quality' page: http://www.jcecable.com/?page_id=3131

So does that mean JCE DisplayPort cables are 'trash', but their USB cables are high quality because they're USB-IF certified? It could well be the case their different types of cables are manufactured to different quality standards and I'm still be interested to see Level1Techs testing Cable Matters, LTT and other brands.

Wendover did a pretty good video years back about the economics of private jets. He mentions how it might make sense economically if you had a retail regional director that needed to visit several stores or distribution centers in several states back-to-back.
For any company I worked with that had an executive jet or two, it was not about Cash-in-Cash-out economics it was at least one part status and two parts 'opportunity cost' of your top execs, when traveling, to be able to come and go on their schedule not a major carrier's and to not get utterly ratfucked during peak travel periods. And without needing to deal with juggling charters (though lower execs still usually would be chartered places).

My friend flew for an OG DotCommer's private airline. He had fuck-you money and had figured out (or rather his accountant had) that it was cheaper to buy and operate 5 jets than 1 because while his charter airline never made money it operated at near break even (until fuel costs made private charter business go in the shitter in the teens; thanks obama) and it made all airplane costs tax deductible by the business. Eventually the business envrionment shifted, charter business dropped off, and he shut it down.

Would rather take Air Koryo than go on his plane.

Steam, the largest digital games store front in the world, only has 79 employees.
The reality is that Valve relies heavily on automation and reportedly outsources a massive amount of "grunt work" (like customer support and moderation) to third-party contractor firms who don't show up on the official payroll.
Please, for the love of God, try and go do one single minute of research before spewing shit from your mouth.

Wouldn't he still be technically correct and also kind of hammers his point home. Keep full time employee costs down and minimal, get specialized non core business stuff out of house to places that do just that to keep costs down. Smart.

Next up on the WAN show, our pilots aren't commercial pilot but "trust me bro" certified.

As mentioned earlier if they so much as touch a plane I wonder how long before they are reported for modifying without certified parts.
I don't think they're going to do much to the airplane because they legally can't.
But he's going to whore himself out to be on late night TV shows a lot more (which are increasingly irrelevant) as well as attend way more tech shows in-person as well as visit way more companies in-person as well as visit streaming faggots in-person. That makes sense as it is one of the few things he can do at this point to either maintain or increase relevance of his "media empire" - on the other hand, with running costs + petrol costing well over $3000 an hour, he will need to be making fucking tons of money.

I don't buy the idea that he's going to make it a "streamer friendly airplane" mainly because the idea is retarded and its not that big of a plane to begin with.

It's also possible there is some sort of tax offset in particular he is chasing with the airplane.

Sure but those appearances and possible videos likely aren't going to net him 3 million a year to offset the cost of keeping the plane operational. While we all know that a streamer friendly airplane idea is fucking dumb due to aviation authorities, that doesn't mean he wasn't just being an impulsive retard who failed to consider it. This is the same idiot who wanted to build a lan party yacht as if that would ever attract clientele.

He could probably squeeze out a couple videos bitching about what the Canadian equivalent of a civil aviation authority(obviously they have one, I'm just too lazy to look up whatever its actually called) won't let him do. But that's not going to make up for any of the costs in revenue either.

Maybe there is some tax angle? But it still seems retarded and there's got to be other ways to game taxes than a fucking 35 year old private jet unless he hopes he can write it off as scrap or something but that still doesn't offset the initial purchase and costs, just the tax dollars on that even if it were possible.

The other possibility is that he doesn't have anyone to tell him "no" even if LMG has a CEO it's only a figurehead, and he's got a bug up his ass at the age of 39 having a midlife crisis. The guy's entire life is a bloated and poorly managed mess, so this shouldn't be out of consideration.

It depends a lot on what exactly the appearances entail and if he manages to get into manufacture of chinesium shit hardcore then maybe its worth it to fly around everywhere. Especially since he's getting into manufacturing cables and shit, it may be that he needs his staff to be flying in and out of ching chong and other places a lot more.

But yeah I'm with you on this and I don't see this thing paying off long term. It does kind of depend on how much LTT as a company was already spending on airfares but I doubt it was anywhere near a million/year.

The plane he bought can't fly from Vancouver to Shenzen nonstop, so it's strictly worse than flying Business Class on an airliner.

He needs a fuel stop to go anywhere outside of North America:

Depends on how much they're flying. I fly business exclusively because the extra ~3k for a long distance flight is worth the two days you're saving. You can pretty much just arrive the same day before an important meeting/presentation/whatever from the other side of the world vs. having to plan in an extra day to unfuck yourself.

Aircraft pilot in EU is like ~100k/year and Canada is probably pretty cheap, so likely around that number. Plus fuel, maintenance, insurance, etc. you're gonna look at 500k a year I guess? Plus about a mil/year in financing costs if it costs 6mil and you're financing for 5. It's a good amount of their budget but if they're flying a lot it's not outlandish.
They paid 5-6 million for the plane, and the estimated fixed costs if you fly it for 300 hours, are around 2.5-3 million, probably more since the calculator is using USA cost estimates, nevermind the paperwork in registering a charter company for it, I bet the insurance is way higher since you're flying customers also and not employees whose families won't really sue your ass if the plane crashes and kills them.

That's gigantic costs, I mean I asked gpt to look it up and he could run a mid level 100 employee industrial plant with this amount of cash and expenses for the 1-2 years it takes for it to turn a profit.

We're talking about a retard who can't pay his oldest employee more than 70 grand and thinks giving them free chink merch they would throw out anyway and he will be getting a fat cut for a sponsored house makeover is above and beyond compensation.
If he's somehow financing it, he's really retarded, I mean I can't even imagine the interest rates on a 1990s old jet that needs at least a couple hundred thousand in maintenance and certificationz and who will lend to his company for this acquisition?

I really am starting to believe he probably launders money for the Chinese mafia, his business makes no fucking sense.

GN does more and better work with a Panasonic 500$ câmera, probably a handheld gimbal for outside shots and interviews and economy class tickets to Taiwan or Asia whilst shooting from metaldude's garage and his 2 employees.

I honestly don't understand why he even needs a jet in the first place. The guy just creates slop videos on youtube, you don't need a jet for that.

It's what I don't understand is he jet setting so much that he needs to save time by having a private jet? Are you having to go to china so much to oversea the quality of LTT things?

I mean this is why fractional ownership exists and would fit his mission.

Sorry for not being a private jet expert but
  1. wouldn't the pilot be more like a gig system and not a constant full time wage?
  2. couldn't they rent out the plane to spread the cost?
  3. and if they're using it for everyone in their company that travels surely that's upwards of dozens of flights per year?

  1. Nope, because the pilot needs to be type rated and certified for the aircraft, he needs rest and to review the flight beforehand and all that stuff takes hours and hours,he needs to be on retainer alongside the hangar maintenance crew, you can't just call up a Dassault falcon crew on speed dial and have them fly or drive to your plane overnight
  2. That's what they are trying to do, but everyone with a slight knowledge in the area knows it's a shit move
  3. Then plane can carry upwards of 12 people and probably their personal cargo, I can't think of a more inefficient way to move a filming crew to a planned event like CES or it's European counterparts where shipping and flying them in coach is far less expensive, it's a toy that he can justify it that way.

1. Couldn't tell you
2. Yes but the problem boils down to who is going to want to charter a 35 year old jet when you could charter a newer one from an established company?
3. How many people at that company are seriously travelling so often on the company dime that a private jet would be cost effective vs just flying business class through a normal airline or chartering a private jet themselves?

It's already been covered in this thread, but in addition to the cost of the jet apparently being somewhere between 5 and 8 million dollars, there's an additional 2-3 million per year of operational costs before actual flight hours. The hangar, maintenance, inspections, certifications, etc.

Looking up charter jet flight estimates, it seems like $100,000 can get you a flight from Vancouver to Miami(seems to be within the range of his jet) round trip for 8 people(may as well pile in more people if you're already paying this kind of money for a flight). That's still going to be far more expensive than just paying for 8 first class seats on a regular airline and on a lower estimate of costs he'd need to be making 80 of those flights a year hauling around a large entourage for this to make up for the first year or costs, and then still another 25-30 per year after that. And this would still be on an almost 40 year old private jet. Even if we change that expenditure to 5 years that's still 175 flights over the course of 5 years to make up that cost compared to just chartering a plane from a dedicated company and then you're still eventually flying on a 40 year old plane.

And that's still all assuming the company would be willing to foot the bill of $15,000 per person charter flights instead of just paying $2-3k for first class per passenger from a traditional airline. And he can't use the jet for a straight trip to China for any of his merch, because that'd require at least one layover for fuel somewhere along the way due to the limited range. And lets be real, does his entourage need to be flying first class? Fuck no. Business class puts that at $2k for a similar flight and would still be better than coach which would bring it to under $1k per person. There is no universe where the math makes any sense for this shit.

In eu even train driver need a separate train type cert for EACH train model / type they wish to drive and line knowledge exam to a thing which moves in a pre determinate route. I don't thing a 10 fold more restricted field has a "gig system"

Unless if a pilot on stand by for like 10 different client which owns the same type of aircraft, but then the client has to maintain a roster of pilots
