I get it though. We decided after 1945 that Europe shouldn’t have an effective military and we were willing to pick up the tab because of the rapidly expanding Military Industrial Complex, which Eisenhower warned us about and has been proven 100% correct about. So Europe diverted funds elsewhere because they were in no position to push back, given how decimated Europe was for many years.
