ATC will always ask if you need assistance if you do anything 'unexpected'. I was once flying over an airport I hadn't flown to and decided to land there and they asked if I needed assistance. "Naw, it just looks like a nice place to land." "Roger, Cessna 12345 radar service terminated, squawk VFR, change to advisory frequency approved."
