My biggest concern is that they think they will be able to because of eastern group think. Imperial Japan had a similar issue where they couldn’t/wouldn’t contradict their superiors because of maintaining face. They don’t have a good record of maritime invasions but they’ve tried it before as a way to unite against an external enemy. The Chinese and Japanese aren’t stupid people but culture and societal norms can negatively impact decision making. (The West isn’t immune to this either, especially in institutions controlled by progressives).
