There are many different reasons but I'm convinced the primary one is an age old classic that has been ruling people for thousands of years which is fear of ostracization. Everyone wants a tribe and when you think the buy-in to your tribe is to agree to something you'll do it without a second thought. I firmly believe every person on earth has one or two "thoughts" they've had that would not align with what their tribe finds acceptable that we keep bottled up. I think a lot of the posturing and trying to be the most liberal or most anti racist are sometimes people trying to "cleanse themselves of sinful thoughts" so to speak.
To add to this, I believe the desire to maintain social cohesion essentially replaces the truth seeking mechanism in many people, i.e., whatever everyone else thinks IS the truth.
We are social creatures and it's completely unintelligent to isolate yourself from the tribe, especially for the most vulnerable. This is why women seem more likely to orient themselves toward group consensus as their model for truth. Similarly, if someone aiming a gun at me told me 2+2=5, I might be inclined to agree. Do that enough times on an evolutionary timeline, my truth-seeking mechanism is a bit different than the one holding the gun. Everything is the gun to a fragile woman responsible for her even more fragile baby. Men have the gun. It grants us more freedom and resilience to explore for truth and defend it when it's unpopular.
I also think lower IQ people depend more on group consensus for truth, too. Repeating what everyone else thinks essentially is the truth until someone else comes along and throws a monkey wrench into it. And what's smarter for the group who can't tell one way or the other? Burn the witch, haha.
I agree with you that many people use leftist causes to launder their own immoral beliefs or choices, especially if they're genuinely reforming from them or trying to. I think that's why the insane white guilt inflicted on white children is so effective. Ye must repent for thy stolen land! Plus losers love to feel morally superior when they're insecure clowns and/or narcissistic assholes.
It's also shitty that I find so much of this out so late in the game. Like a retard, I've been treating people like facts, logic, information, and data are the things needed to persuade them. Nah, not at all.
With women, at best, you make them feel bad for supporting the actual "bad" position (it's not "empathetic" to support double-mastectomies on little girls). And making people feel bad means you
are bad. So not only are you making "trans" people feel bad, but now you've made their
defenders feel bad. Their cognitive dissonance is resolved by doubling down and blaming you, not accepting themselves as retards and updating their beliefs.
With narcissists, none of those things got them there to begin with. No facts matter at any point. They're self-perched in the moral high ground and anything presented will be fuel that you're so fucking evil for trying to justify whatever reasonable position your evidence actually justifies.
With low IQ/average people, you're the problem for forcing them to think about whether what they support is good or bad. And if your side has fewer people, or their side of friends, family, or online echo chamber is bigger, they'd rather find a way to ignore/invalidate it to remain dissonance-free.
This is especially true with leftists because their entire campaign is, "We are the
moral people. We care about the marginalized. The right are literally evil Nazis and fascists!" You switch sides on them, you know you're announcing your departure with a megaphone by telling psychos, "I am also a Nazi! I was the entire time! I deserve to die!"
Anyway, whatever. I just know the truth is the truth and I'm reliant on it. I'll always try to find what
is true, not what is
purported to be true. And I've realized the biggest issue causing our divide isn't that nobody else wants that, but that so few are actually capable.
