Greenland has a population of 50k.

We deployed roughly 15k soldiers on ships to Venezuela which was estimated to have around 35k soldiers gaurding its coast line and we skipped over all of it with 20 men and snatched their leader right from under them in 3 hours. It would take multiple NATO countries (competent ones) to show up immediately and in full force to actually make a meaningful defense of Greenland.

I don't think anyone doubts it would be trivial for the USA to occupy Greenland. No other country would have the will or the means to prevent it.

But that wouldnt stop it being an act of war, against countries that the USA has considered allies for decades.

A lot of the narrative around Trump, the USA, NATO is that it's a cost the USA has had to shoulder. And in many ways that is true - and Europe has allowed itself to become complacent and underfunded its own militaries. But that doesn't mean the USA has not benefitted from NATO itself, and being able to have a strong military presence in Europe. One of the main reasons why greenland is supposedly necessary to American national security is to protect the mainland - the same goes for Europe itself. And that's without touching on intelligence sharing or the economic hit of trade friction.

I don't think making an actual enemy of Europe is smart, or to the long term benefit of the USA.
