He qual'd as a sharpshooter in the marines and the shot was only about 250 feet with a scoped rifle. Any competent hunter could have made that shot (the ammo was actually made by Winchester-Western cartridge company by request of the CIA, its true look it up. good quality ammo. CIA bought like 4 mil rounds.).

Not actually sure I've heard an audio recording, but I do remember that detail being brought up in the Oliver Stone film. I always found it weird that he didn't fire when JFK's car was driving directly towards him down a straight street. Very, very easy shot. Instead he waited until it turned and was moving laterally, actually a much more difficult shot despite being closer (and with a magnified optic being too close might actually be a hindrance). I always figured if he was the sole shooter he must have just done it that way thinking he'd be less likely to get spotted though.
