there is an ulterior motive, under NATO and Denmark agreements the U.S. can basically do whatever the fuck they want militarily on Greenland, Trump (or whoever is telling him how to pursue this) seem to think their capacity to defend Greenland is contingent on them literally having the deed to Greenland while this isn't the case (U.S. defended Greenland while Denmark was occupied by Nazi Germany during WW2, and also operated there during the Cold War with over a dozen bases).

Us owning it prevents the Eurofagots from giving it away like how the British are giving away the Indian Ocean islands to the Chinese.
