8.6BLK failed to get SAAMI accepted so it won't see mass adoption by retailers. .338 arc did however so its likely that the .338 will win out against the 8.6 (and it fits in AR15s)

Because Hornady are dicks, the only thing the .338 Arc has going for it is fitting in AR15s, the 8.6BLK is a better round, which is why Hornady made sure it didn't get SAAMI accepted. We could have round that would be fantastic at hunting the most dangerous game at 150ish yard distances, but Hornady would rather release another round that'll flop.
