Considering for years everyone encouraged Geoff's drinking because it was fun, I don't for a second believe any of the people around him could care that much for him.
Maybe, maybe not. If they've quit or cut back on their own drinking they could be a good influence since they'd be right there with him helping him stay clean. That was also many years, a divorce, and an (IIRC) estranged daughter ago, there's probably some level of guilt there realizing how bad the drinking got and the part they played in it.
