used to be most of the PBS shows taught phonics as well. i will forever remind people that between the lions is one of the most effective muppet-style shows for teaching kids to read because it teaches phonics basics, and does so in a fun way. it's a great 'video segment' for homeschooling, or just to bond with your little ones with. it's also not annoying, childish, or intellectually worthless like teletubbies or boobah or any of that shit.

the main theme of the show was teaching phonics and reading, so even the opening theme is a phonics lesson. even the name and concept are referencing the lion statues that stand 'guard' over the New York Public Library.

this shit being taken off air, no longer being the focus of the programming on PBS, is why it was not worthwhile to continue funding it anymore. i would have been a hell of a lot louder about the funding being taken away from the corporation for public broadcasting if PBS still showed phonics learning, reasoning skills, or even just basic education. it's just the equivalent of kiddy propaganda now, though.

i think i recall null having a similar complaint about how shit US sesame street is compared to other regions' versions of it, where they're not shoving gay shit in constantly.

My mom unintentionally taught me how to read by the age of four because there was a book about trains with an electronic part to it where it would read out what was on the page. Unironically trains. I was also very curious about nature and technology and so I found those elementary school kid appropriate books with lots of pictures to go with the written information fascinating.

Big shout out to The Way Things Work. Awesome book.

Edit: I need to remind my mom how much she increased my capacity as a sapient being and how thankful I am for it.

The whole thing is so retarded. It's like calling someone a coward for wearing a seatbelt. It has nothing to do with fear and everything to do with simple measures to avoid an unwanted outcome. ICE agents don't want to get doxed, have their families harassed, deal with constant death threats, etc. Wearing a mask is an easy and convenient way to reduce that likelihood (though not infallible, obviously).

But they already know all this, so why do they even bring it up? Do they think the agents give a shit about their complaints or feel personally wounded by being called "cowards" by faggy leftists who idolize other faggy leftists like Antifa whose signature look includes... wearing masks? Do they think if they cry enough about it being hard for them to dox people, ICE will change their uniform guidelines?

I fucking despise the spirit of the new-modern warfare series. Worst fuckin interpretation of the series, completely shit cold war 2 propaganda that inspires nothing, and filled with abject enshittification.

in COD4 we had a mission with an "Al-Asad" being supported by a Russian Ultranationalist (in 2007, mind you).
We had cargo ship boarding actions taking place in the arctic.
We had an entire mission in Ukraine regarding the transfer of cold war assets.
It was close enough to be predictive, and full of kino references like "Crew Expendable" having multiple Aliens references.
Shit was so cash, brah. Even though it was supposedly "dudebro" it was surprisingly "realistic" in terms of its Tom Clancy propagandaness.
Much more so than almost any other game's setup.
"What would happen if a Russian civil war resulted in nukes falling into the wrong hands?"
"What would happen if a rogue jihadist state got Nukes?"

Meanwhile in Microslop's Nu-warfare we get race swapped Gaz, dumbass Price, and Zero Dark Thirty bitch in charge.

We deserve a better tier of propaganda, but I'm not surprised that the franchise has been opened wider and shitted in more than our borders.
And I give WAW and Black Ops 1 (and 2 to a lesser extent) the same level of regard for attempting pathos and taking the events seriously. These two games basically carried the entire franchise's legacy for 25+ games at this point, none of which come close.

We used to get really really good propagandakino and games, and I credit DEI and Trump being the biggest, baddest orange man of all time for destroying that. Now these games and movies have absolutely nothing to do with reality, and have nothing to say.

It's not. That's a common misconception (and a big part of why people so often think free speech is just "lip service" and there's magically all these exceptions that justify bans, censorship, etc.). "Shouting 'fire' in a theater" is a hypothetical example included in the written decision in Schenck v. United States, 249 U.S. 47 (1919), but not included as the standard itself, which was: "The question in every case is whether the words used are used in such circumstances and are of such a nature as to create a clear and present danger that they will bring about the substantive evils that Congress has a right to prevent. It is a question of proximity and degree."

This was superseded anyway by Brandenburg v. Ohio (1969), which established the current standard. Speech is protected unless it is directed to inciting or producing imminent lawless action and is likely to do so. Shouting "fire!" in a theater is protected -- even if it leads to a panicked evacuation, that attempt to escape isn't lawless.

That's why rallying groups together to commit crimes is the real juicy angle, not one person's own threats to do something violent.

they will absolutely say that ICE agents shouldn't wear masks because they deserve to be held publicly accountable. if you point out that anyone involved in a crime as part of a black bloc should also be held publicly accountable, they'll make up shit about ICE coming to their houses in the middle of the night, or the idea that the US has a gestapo. they can't give you a rational answer for why antifa shouldn't be held accountable. it will either be an outright, but honest, dismissal of the concept of them suffering consequences because it's destruction/violence/chaos they agree with, or give the excuse that it's anti-fascist, and therefore should be treated differently.

these are the people who believe that oppressed groups should be allowed to perpetrate anything onto their oppressors. they don't understand that in the past, that's exactly what happened, and it usually means mass slaughter, rape, and child slaughter/rape.

no, you don't have to carry your ID, but i don't know a single person who doesn't. if ICE have reasonable suspicion you might be involved with detained individuals, you're going to be lawfully detained. at that point, they will begin ascertaining your citizenship. if you choose to exercise your fifth amendment right, you sure can... but you will be taken to jail on suspicion of being an illegal alien, and they will waste time and money figuring out who you are, while you sit in jail.

every single lawyer in the country would tell you in no uncertain terms that if ICE requests to see if you're a citizen you just instantly show them your ID. you will become immune to ALMOST anything they can do after that, unless you are still in the process of interrupting their lawful detainment of other people to ascertain immigration status.

they're going to fuck around, and someone will eventually get the idea that we should allow ICE to request that openly, and make it law to comply. that would even solve the peoples' fears that they might be detained or deported despite being 'legal' citizens.

that doesn't even touch on the fact that this retard then tries to say "you're as bad as russia! checking to see who's actually a citizen and not just taking their word for it!" or how she justifies (i assume it's a she) that italy was doing this shit during covid, but clearly the coof meant it was okay.

In the book Freehold the specops teams from the eponymous planet that gets occupied by an authoritarian Earth absolutely fucking wreck things on Earth to the extent of suitcase nukes and cracking the domes of undersea cities killing millions. They are fighting against an injustice and they are cognizant that they are using the blood of innocent as a weapon. Key differences between that scenario and this: ICE is simply enforcing the law in their own goddamned country and the libshits see more blood as a good thing.
