On the topic of disagreements.

The world is a complicated place and no source of information is entirely reliable. how reliable a source is, is up to discussion, and reasonable people will come to different conclusions, that can all be justified.
Even if two people largely agree about the facts of a matter, they can still judge it differently, based on different values. Usually not because one person has completely different values than another person, but because when a number of values apply to a situation, each person will value them slightly higher or lower in a relative ranking of importance. A classic is security vs liberty. Very few people don't value either at all. Often the question is whether you value one more than the other in a certain circumstance.
Two entirely reasonable people can discuss a topic, and end up disagreeing about what to make of it, or how to feel about it, and the discussion can still have been interesting because each had information they other didn't have, and their perspective, while not entirely shared, can inform the understanding of the world of the other side. It's also possible to find errors in one's view, and while correcting them will not necessarily change one's overall conclusion, it will refine one's understanding. Articulating and arguing one's position is also very useful for finding holes or errors in one's views on your own.
People love to listen to discussions between people with different points of view because of how enriching these sorts of conversations can be.

But this enrichment is impossible when one side is engaging in bad faith. Communication becomes cancerous when one side doesn't value understanding, but is only interested in compliance. When a certain conclusion is set as the goal, and the process consists of twisting and manipulating information to make it fit that conclusion. To such a person being presented with more information, or reasoned disagreement, is not a way to improve understanding, but a threat to their goal of shoring up a world view, a threat to the cohesion of their community. I think that a cohesion that is based on falsehood and can only be protected through dishonesty will eventually collapse due to its inherent stresses, but many people don't see things like that.
For some people, it's the the process of enforcing compliance that gives them pleasure. The process of controlling people is the goal, the rest is unimportant.
Another motivation can be to alleviate cognitive dissonance. Being a member of certain communities (for example the MAGA one) requires holding certain beliefs, and coming to the conclusion that these beliefs are false would risk expressing wrongthink, which in those groups will lead to ostracism. Being alone. Better to attack those who threaten one's well-being with uncomfortable arguments before such a thing happens.

Finally, anyone who cares about or even knows what their rate on this site is should take a shower and go outside. Like a lot of you, I love this place and think it's probably the only forum/social spot online that doesn't suck now, but if this place has replaced socialization for you and become the focus of your life, you've gotta find friends. Go take a class, join a D&D campaign, become a regular at a restaurant, hang out at the library, or join some sort of sports club. Tennis and golf are pretty easy to get into and pretty white, same with volleyball if you're on the coast and willing to take your shirt off. Sure some of them will be libtards, but keep your views relatively quiet irl and vent them here.

I think emotions can run high and I tend to err on the side of snark with how I handle disagreements here but I respect that this is a place for people of all different views to have a place to vent.
