P.S. I find it very insulting that the anti-Trump people have all decided to hate me when I have gone out of my way continuously to afford you space on my website. I have had to delicately handle HHH trolling the A&H board for almost as long as the site has existed. There are special rules about him specifically (you can't tag him) that are put in place specifically to make sure that there is room for dissent against the majority on the Kiwi Farms. Framing this like both sides are reasonable people who just have different opinions is an error. A&N posters are a cancer that is destroying every community they come in contact with. The reason these people are the majority on A&N is that they attack anyone who doesn't share even their objectively factually wrong views until they stop posting. Nobody with half a brain will put up with the sewer they turned A&N into.

I think the conflict between the lolcow part of the forum and A&N reflects a conflict between the old Internet and the new one.
The old Internet was characterized by communities united by a shared interest, where people wanted to fool around and discuss things with smart and interesting people.
The new Internet is separating people based on ragebait-fueled algorithm-driven rabbit holes, driving its victims to the most extreme views on any topic. It keeps people in a constant state of blind rage. It instills a view of the world as existing in state of extreme emergency, of battle by the forces of pure good against the forces of pure evil, with apocalyptic stakes, because extremes drive engagement. In such a mindset, no place is not a battlefield, and no hill is too petty to not fight to the death (of community) on.
I believe this difference in mindset brings about the differences in behaviour, and in subforum culture.

A&N is an echo chamber where the local culture is to never argue about anything, but unify around whatever opinion is viral on their twitter feeds, and if anyone posts hard data that contradicts whatever lie they fell for that day, those people get heckled and insulted until they stop posting. The locals do not try to back their position with arguments or data, but mindlessly repeat the party line over and over while flinging insults until the other side goes away. As a result it is impossible to discuss anything in A&N. You get actively worse informed by reading it, since people there will knowingly or indifferently post false information. Their positions and "principles" change from day to day and sometimes hour to hour, as their only standard is to be aligned with whatever MAGA is doing or saying right this second. They make even third party discussion impossible by flooding threads with garbage posts, for example in the Epstein files thread.
The average user there doesn't see kiwifarms as a forum for sharing and discussion information, but as a redoubt for sharing comforting words and preparing for the next battle of the culture war. Dissenters are seen as enemy invaders, which is why they endlessly negrate like they're on reddit, and engage in bad faith 100% of the time. You will never see fact based discussion there. It's nothing but "praise be to Trump, if you disagree you have TDS and are brown". Victory is not when you have the best arguments, but when the other side stops speaking.

The vitriol you see in the discussion of these topics on this site is 100% caused by the MAGA side. The animosity they get is responsive, and only a tiny fraction of what they pour out themselves.

I’ve been thinking lately about how much I miss old internet. Like you said, community driven with less overreach by corporations trying to sell to us, or “Americans” posting about warm weather ports.
