I don't get the seethe posting. Wasn't the main point about Venezuela smuggling drugs into the USA, which causes a ton of deaths and social issues? Wouldn't blowing up the people responsible be a net social good.

People are still wary of long, protracted wars, and to a degree they're right to do so with the U.S.'s track record.
I think what the U.S. figured out is that they suck against insurgencies, not so much against conventional militarizes and taking out their leaders.

When Bush invaded Iraq in March of 2003, the U.S captured Saddam in December of that year; what they fucked up on, was trying to nation build.

Venezuela is the first target in Trump's War on Drug Smuggling. You don't reopen and repave a military base that was closed 20 years ago just to overthrow the former bus driver dictator.
