DC has released its crime statistics through the end of 2025. Preliminary reviews show a significant drop in homicide, auto theft, and theft from autos since Trump announced a crackdown on August 11, but other crimes are more mixed.

Since August 11, overall violent and non-violent crime has dropped about 16% compared to earlier in the year.

Before August 11, DC was on track for about 164 homicides, but it ended the year with 128. This is the sixth-lowest number of annual homicides in the last 20 years. However, if you extrapolated the homicide rate since the crackdown across the whole 12 months, you would have about 77 homicides per year, which would be the lowest in over 50 years and likely longer (hard to get data from back then).

There have been 30 homicides since the Trump announcement and deployment of federal law enforcement and National Guard troops on August 11th.

Violent crime numbers dipped from 7.2 violent crimes per day before August 11 to 6.1 per day after. However, Assault with a Deadly Weapon cases are up slightly from 7.9% since August 11, and sexual abuse cases are up 27% (note: the number of sexual abuse cases that are reported is low, so trends are difficult to assess with a small dataset).

Thefts are up 3% since August 11, but thefts from auto are down 31% and car thefts are down 45% since August 11.

note: Besides the bigger issue of politically motivated changes in crime data which is being investigated by the DoJ and Congress, it is worth noting that police investigations and prosecutorial decisions also affect the overall classifications of crimes and these changes are added to the database daily (i.e. what looks like an 'assault' may later be ruled 'self-defense' by police or prosecuters and removed from the database). This dataset is constantly changing, so you may see slightly different numbers when you review it.

I haven't been around many Millennial people to say, but I can confirm that most Gen Z-ers I know are either mentally ill or hysteric due to chronic social media exposure. Regarding tech literacy, I don't know. I rarely talk about that stuff—what accounts for being tech-literate as opposed to illiterate?

The amount of zoomers I see as clients that I've had to teach that the monitor button turns on the monitor and NOT the computer is more than the amount of retirees I've had to teach.
I blame the schools, not the zoomers. Schools had computer labs that got tossed once everyone had smartphones and the implication of a pc at home.
