It's him going on a power trip and trying to retain control. It sounds crazy but Phail is a pathological liar and a delusional narcissist who has lived the life of a hermit for almost a whole decade now. That's why he keeps lying and contradicting himself with things that are completely unimportant and inconsequential. So, in this example he first does his smartest man in the world/everything sucks/everyone's incompetent but me shtick by saying that the waffles sucked. However, later on a troll DARED to challenge Phail's izzat by laughing at the fact that he ate instant waffles that looked terrible for Christmas, so Phail had to retain control over the narrative by suddenly switching to those waffles being world-class and gourmet now and you are JEALOUS that you have no access to the Burnell household waffles which would win Michelin stars if they were ever sold to the public.
I wasn't watching tonight, was he interacting with chat at all? In his first Megabonk stream he made a point of explaining that the game is too complicated for him to play and read chat at the same time, so he wasn't sure if it would Work(tm).
As we speak he's already looking for somebody else to either interview him or collab with him cause that and the gaming journalist memes seem to be the only 2 things attracting new dents. Granted he has to act like some crazy ex girlfriend just to get peoples attention but still

Phail has shown time and time again that when you think he's already scraping the bottom of the barrel, he'll fall through and land on the bottom of the empty barrel underneath and immediately start scraping it.
