Saw this article a few weeks ago from a former Bungie writer about this particular scene and what inspired both it and Kat's character overall. Neat little read.

One of the writer’s comments in the comments section delved into the relationship between Kat and Carter. He pointed out that Kat was a huge part of Carter’s life since they were the longest surviving members of Noble team, that her death turned him into a shell.

She was also the one to suggest and convince Carter to use the slip space bomb on the Covenant supercarrier. You don't need a lengthy conversation to know how close those two were, sometimes non-verbal communication goes a long way in art.

An example of this kind of effective storytelling is in Halo Infinite when Master Chief immediately began the deletion protocols when he thought that the Weapon was going rampant. He was not about to let another rampant AI loose, not let his actions lead to more tragedy.

New Crash episode for the two or three other people who watch it.

It's a shame Reach wasn't longer to be honest, the only death that ever hit me was Kat's and Six's, maybe followed by Carter's. Jorge and Emile just didn't really get enough screen time for me to care beyond spectacle, and at the very least Emile went out the way he absolutely wanted to.

It's the same problem with ODST where certain members (Mickey and Romeo) are so underdeveloped compared to the other guys that they end up feeling like side characters in their own team.

Maybe they could've compromised and added some extra character material for the Spartans via the data pads like say Sadie's Story, since I've never really cared about the side plot going on there originally.

(also locking some of the data pads behind Legendary was so gay, same with Halo 3's terminals.)

Honestly, with the Chief its also how other people act towards him. All throughout Halo 1 he's treated as less of a man and more of a killing machine on the side of humanity, Halo 2's start has Johnson making a remark on how he said he was going to dress nicely, and by the end of Halo 2 Cortana has gone full teary-eyed emotional towards him, and they all do this knowing he's going to be able to understand and reciprocate somehow.

Jorge felt the most human of the team to me, and so he was the most tragic, especially since it was a death he willingly chose instead of the death the Covenant gave him. I never really liked Kat, so her death didn't hold me for me, Carter's was depressingly predictable, since of course the pilot is going to tragically yet heroically die in some form so we can crash land and fight our way through the Covenant instead of just flying there, and as someone who's a fan of Republic Commando I knew Discount Sev wasn't leaving that turret alive.

I was never that attached to any of the characters from Reach. Kat's death dies work as a good "oh shit" moment though. You get so used to shit-stomping aliens that the idea that a Spartan could die like that seems almost inconceivable. They're supposed to be the saviors of humanity, demigods of war. They go out in a blaze of glory standing on a pile of enemy corpses, they don't get killed by a cheap-shot from an enemy they didn't even see.

Pre e3 prototype of halo 2

There's another one dated may 11th 2003 I just thought the earlier one would be interesting to post here.

I would post the link to the tcrf article that was posted but they are hostile to kiwifarms from referral links so I won't.
I found the original 4chan OP. 10gb of leak data and a nigger pun in the OP.

For those unaware, this is part 2 of the Digsite leak. Seems to be the same guy, and this is a goldmine. This build we've got has a PC debug executable meaning you don't even need an Xbox to check it out (though the lighting and sound are broken sadly), and it has the infamous pstencil lighting/shadow system before they scrapped it. There's also a ton of source texture files from the development period. That may 11th build is also the entire original E3 build, not the recreation by Digsite.

R/Shithalosays trannie jannies got mad and banned me for posting this.

Yet another Christmas miracle. A few years back we got Rayman 4 leaked and now we have Fallout New Vegas among early Halo 2, I like this tradition.

That's the one that was 100% faked, right? Should be interesting to research.

Yes it is. If you go off the beaten path or deviate from the scripted events, there's nothing there. It's smoke and mirrors, not a real campaign mission. The alpha that comes with it shows just how fucked Bungie was, they have basically nothing done after a year and a half of development. Not long after this, development would reset and a year or so of crunch would begin. Crunch so hard it ruined friendships and ended marriages. That's not an exaggeration. Halo 2 was a nightmare to make for all involved.

It's depressing to see /v/ barely even talk about the leak, hell /vr/ has maybe 14 responses as of writing this. It's clear the board is now populated by children who probably weren't even born when Halo 2 was being previewed. Feeling old yet?

It probably speaks to Microsoft and 343's inability to keep Halo culturually relevant. Don't forget, the last time Halo actually mattered was 2010. Since then it's been a slow, painful decline for it and the Xbox brand as a whole.

Halo youtubers have done the impossible. I’m finding myself actually using the AI video summaries because, between the title, thumbnail, description, and first minute and a half of the video, they provide literally no context for the massive waste-of-time nothingburger that I’m about to skip through and my only hope of figuring out if i want to sit through it is the AI agent summarizing the entire video for me.
I’m sorry for doubting the feature.

I've stopped going there after they started region-blocking the upload of pictures.

How many of you have done LASO on the MCC? I’ve done CE, Reach, ODST and am about to start Halo 4.
Never done that. Only legendary runs on Halo 3, ODST, Reach and 4.

Is it just me or does the cut lighting/Shadow system from the E3 build feel like doom 3?
It's using similar techniques to what Doom 3 used. The reason why they couldn't pull it off on Xbox is because Doom 3 was narrow corridors, and Halo 2 has a ton of outdoor environments. Visually it would look wrong and performance-wise it'd be too costly.
