It might be one of Cotton Mather's books also- "Wonders of the Invisible World" probably, or it's sequel. They're both people named Mather who were paranoid about Catholics, so it's easy to get them confused.

You got confused, which obviously happens very easily for you. You're the one parading around your delusions of personal agency in the political landscape, not me; I'm the realist telling you that politics is a spectator sport and none of us personally selected JD Vance. Like I said, go send some politician a Spongebob-stamped letter, then you can feel like a big boy whose voice was really heard.

There's a broad range. Turning Point is ultimately a student organization, and it seems like at least a third are college age or younger. Decent chunk of older people and boomers too.

This is one of the strangest things I see among progressives in general. It's almost like they consider optimism of any kind to be outright unpatriotic. It's truly remarkable how aggressively they seem to want to disbelieve in or disprove any good news.

These are people who have seem to be so thoroughly poisoned by cynicism that they would sincerely rather the world be worse, just for the sake of proving the righteousness of their moral crusade. If you tell them that something good is going on, their visceral instinct is to find a reason to double down on the idea that no, actually, everything is actually still horrible all the time.

It's no fucking wonder they're all so suicidal and doomeristic. If I had a philosophy like that, I'd probably want to kill myself too.

I have a theory about this. Israel was founded by a combination of western and Russian Jews at the end of WW2, when the US and the USSR were still loosely aligned. The OSS, which formed the bones of the CIA, also had a significant number of communists in its number, since they needed those people to interface with the USSR during the war.

So, as the Allies pulled apart and Cold War started to escalate, Israel became a sort of backchannel for cooperation between the intelligence agencies of the two superpowers, more so than the clownshow that is the UN. It was in that place where the sorts of people who wanted to find a way to work together to subvert and control the global population would come together to do their black books type shit. And nothing about that conflicts with the base philosophies underpinning Judaism.
