The only reason why Israel was able to do that was because Syria had just fallen and the tankers were able to operate over Syria. The Syrian government under Assad had a really good AA setup and it was incredibly dangerous for Israeli planes to fly over Syria to attack Iran even with the EW systems designed to counter Russian AA. That all went out the windows as soon as Assad was overthrown, after that Israel bombed most of the AA and the skies over Syria were suddenly clear.

seems to me like israel might want to look into the idea of in-air refueling, since they don't really have anywhere they can safely land to refuel. perhaps israeli doctrine needs updating, and i'm sure the US would be more than willing to sell them a mid-air refueling platform.
