LAST MAP POST (for now) I promise!
this is what the north pole actually looks like
The center is called "blackrock" (where have I heard that before) its apparently 3 rivers out flowing and 1 in-flowing but ive seen some say its 2 and 2 or 4 out flowing, hard to know
but thats just one old map from who knows where, I hear you saying (from Stanfords map collection)
so how about a name you might be more familiar with, yall ever heard of Mercator? as in Mercator Projection, the style of map used around the modern world?
he was a super famous Flemeish cartographer well know today for making the first "modern map" in the sense it looks like one today,
this one
this is
HIS north pole map made in 1595 then he later revised in 1606
when you compare them you really notice some striking similarity with the
1587 map from Monte's (an Italian)
notice the "sideways" greenland as opposed to how its seen now as well as the "smaller islands"
This is all related to US politics as fact finding to determine if greenland is a good purchase or not
(promise this is the last one for a good while, just wanted to finish to point and give anyone remotely interested an idea of there is SOMTHING to this, all these guys werent just making up maps to be funny, they were respected academics of their age and now.)
