This is correct, and it is why everyone shitting their pants about "stealing" content to train AI is wrong and gay. training AI on publicly available content is no different than an art student studying Michelangelo, then that art student's paintings having a bit of a Michelangelo inspired look to them. All art anyone has ever made is influenced by what they've seen before.disclaimer, I am not a legal professional, just a tech sperg wanting to bounce around ideas.
As a thought exercise. Lets say Im a lazy arts teacher and its my job to teach some pottery technique to a group of students. I do this by showing my students a pottery YouTube video, not the entire video, just a segment. Have I as a teacher now infringed on the pottery YouTubes copyright?
The ultimate aim of my shitty arts class is to teach this pottery technique, not to emulate 1:1 what is done in the video I showed.
What I'm getting at is that I think NVIDIA used these datasets to teach AI certain fundamentals of human behavior, not to emulate some copyrighted material. If that makes sense.
Beat me to it.

Correct. In fact California has ruled twice that it's a transformative use so the Kleins are fighting a losing battle (Source courtesy of AI). Anyone who understands more than the surface layer of how AI works knows this. There was even a case where Anthropic (purveyors of Claude) had a workaround for training on books by buying copies and scanning them (Source) though they still got dinged for piracy (though I wonder if they could've avoided this by scanning library books). Ethan being a copyright Jew to fuck over Hasan's cronies was funny but this is just a waste of all the money he's winning from those cases. Unless he's being a turbo Jew and is angling for a settlement (lol). This is correct, and it is why everyone shitting their pants about "stealing" content to train AI is wrong and gay. training AI on publicly available content is no different than an art student studying Michelangelo, then that art student's paintings having a bit of a Michelangelo inspired look to them. And correct me if I'm wrong, but there is no law that says you need permission from a content creator to use their content before you can train an AI on it, it just makes them really butt blasted when you do.
In the books series "Dune", 20 techbros decided that they could run things better and also were seeking immortality. They achieved this by placing their brains into android bodies called Cymeks and naming themselves Titans. Then they build an AI called Ominus to help them run things, only for it to eventually take over everything and ruling for a thousands years until the Butlerian Jihad finally ended it. After that it was declared that "thinking machines" should never be built, which is why they use Mentats as human calculators and Spice-powered Navigators to "fold" across space without teleporting into an asteroid.world controlled by cold, unfeeling machines who could not possibly understand the human experience yet could be dictating your fate from the day you are born, influencing society in such a subtle way that we don't even notice it or understand that AI has become a hivemind, a well-oiled digital machine controlling every aspect of society
Who could have possibly foreseen Ominus being a supervillain?!Then they build an AI called Ominus to help them run things, only for it to eventually take over everything and ruling for a thousand years
Its more accurate to say in the prequel books to "Dune" written by the original authors far less talented son after the original authors death. Because those books are fucking awful. In the books series "Dune", 20 techbros decided that they could run things better and also were seeking immortality. An Ominus you say...Who could have possibly foreseen Ominus being a supervillain?!

Copyright is the gayest, most homosexual of faggot legal concepts that benefits only the richest, most powerful corporations, enables the most sniveling, vexatious little lawfare waging cunts, erects barriers to entry, stifles creativity, and is a major contributing factor to why the internet today is a gay censorious jew-jeet hellscape. Comparing oppositing to copyright to communism and pedophilia is some of the lowest IQ shit, I'd have to wonder if you're from the subcontinent. Curse vishnu for us.Abolish property.
Have to workshop this idea a bit. Which lawsuitS?There should be a new poll.
The one we current have, is a bit old.
How about "Who will win in the lawsuit"?
His felting of Frogan and Denimes for starter.Have to workshop this idea a bit. Which lawsuitS?
Fair use for what? A corporation using a product they do not own or have rights to, to train their product, which they then sell to competitors of the original creator?1. The defense has multiple extremely powerful defenses, namely fair use, which this absolutely applies to.
Using a publicly available work to train a tool (which is what AI is) and then later down the line selling a product made with that tool which contains approximately 0% of the original content used for training, is about as transformative as it possibly gets. Far more than say a commentary or response or critique. There is no way to retrieve the original content upon which the AI generated content was trained, and it can no way be considered a market replacement because it does not contain any of the original content whatsoever.Fair use for what? I am sorry, but I do not see a corporations stealing content as any kind of fair use, since the transformative creation happens at a much later date, after the AI product has been trained extensively on content they do not own.
The training is not transformative.Using a publicly available work to train a tool (which is what AI is) and then later down the line selling a product made with that tool which contains approximately 0% of the original content used for training, is about as transformative as it possibly gets.
