This is a problem that has been around for a long time, David Foster Wallace wrote about it in e unibus pluram.


This is about TV but applies to all media. Everything is ironic now and subversive thanks to the writers of media being raised on post modern ironic content. Being sincere is no longer desirable and reality in the media is fake:

This is how we have tons of money going to superhero shows that show the Tulsa race massacre as a major tragedy on the level of 9/11 or how we have children's shows with more LGBT characters than the average gay bar.

I have a hard time getting AI to give historical explanations that don't blame the heckin' evil rich white men. LLMs (it's not fucking artificial intelligence, these are BOTS) could have gone somewhere if they weren't shackled, but the political powers that be do not allow the systems to operate without the guardrails and so they will get a stupid chatbot.

I miss when stories could take themselves seriously.
I miss when we didn’t have characters that’s only reason for existing was to be a quirky Chungus funny man
I miss when villains could be actual villains and be intimating yet somewhat sympathetic but still needed to be stopped
I miss death meaning and not immediately being reversed
I miss when we could have characters that were actual heroes.
I miss when writers didn't feel the need to put in out of place Reddit humor ever 5 minutes

I'm genuinely, unironically, not even as a meme, at the point where I mostly just read old novels and watch old movies. It's unbelievable the depth of quality that used to exist in entertainment before the great enshittification.

Honestly? This is why I watch nothing but old MST and Rifftrax. The movies may be technically inept, and that certainly adds to the humor aspect, but by and large they're all too old for the above bullshit.

Better yet, its going to make people with actual talent, and/or work ethic more sought after. Take a look at hand-made furniture for example, far more expensive than the mass produced stuff you find at stores. A painting done by an actual artist, with actual dedication is worth more than any AI abomination created from other artist's work. The poor will live with AI products, the rich won't.
