Assuming that UFO's do exist and aren't just US/Russian/Chinese black projects or psyops, them being from an ancient Earth civilization is actually the Occam's Razor solution that requires the fewest wild assumptions. If we assume that UFO's come from aliens, then it must mean that either: (1) they're from nearby, and universe around us is absolutely teeming with life that we just haven't been able to find, despite our decades of searching, or (2) they're from really, REALLY far away, and FTL travel, and by extension time travel, must be possible. Meanwhile, if we assume that UFO's come from an ancient Earth civilization... well, we already know that the Earth is capable of spawning a technologically advanced species, and the time/distance problem is irrelevant because they're right here on Earh. The only assumption we have to make is that there existed an ancient technologically advanced civilization that we have not yet discovered evidence of. And that's something that is at least theoretically plausible and doesn't require upending our current understanding of physics or the universe.
