I'm also pretty sure you can turn the beacon off for most key fobs and then start the car as if the fob was dead and this mitigates replay attacks or anything similar. You really can't have a modern vehicle without an immobilizer, if they want to use cryptography then auto manufacturers need to do it properly.

I'm not very familiar with auto security but I'm pretty sure most vehicles are immune to a simple replay attack. I looked it up to be sure and found that one hacker guy who likes to do basic hacks to flex and he made it seem trivial on his own lamborghini which I'd hope has the basic security of a camry. The attack required cloning the button presses and then jamming the fob frequency and replaying the fob, all while keeping the car from ever receiving the initial signals.Why do you hate fobs? Electronic locks are much more secure and neigh impossible to defeat! Haven't you heard of the blockchain? Basically, a fob is way more secure than a stupid regular key. They're also so convenient! You never accidentally lock your keys in the car or leave the car unlocked. And don't get me started on remote start. I think I the best feature of fobs though is they let cars have those flush handels that pop out with AI. That's an anti-theft device all on its own! The only thing better is when they let you use a smartphone to unlock their car and have a huge infotainment™ center with apps and games you can download. I love to tune in to WNPR on the IRadio app to get all my news updates, and I can't even imagine going back to FM radio.
