It was pretty much the most optimal, value-driven outcome for both patients. Kaceytron came out of this losing no money outside of the GoFundMe. Even if she fought this for years and somehow managed to win, she'd have ended up in the red for several hundred thousand dollars in court costs.

If Ethan refused to settle, he'd have probably won and gotten a 150k judgement or whatever, but he'd also be on the hook for court costs that exceed the judgement. Sure, he could have financial buckbroke Kaceytron, but it's not like she'd ever be able to pay it off anyways. Plus time wasted and all that.

The trade-off was essentially:

Kaceytron: Trades assured financial destruction for publicly humiliating herself and Hasan as well as potentially being penalized for going after Ethan in the future. Also her supporting Ethan's efforts against Reddit mods.

Ethan: Trades the pleasure that is destroying someone's life to force them to publicly humiliate themselves and Hasan as well and ensuring there's potentially a penalty if she disparages him in the future. Also garnering her supporting, and likely ebidence, his efforts against the Reddit mods.

Ethan effectively got the most bang for the buck. Quite frankly, it's the most Jewish thing imagine.
