I know the surface level explanations like paying for Social Security, but nobody can seriously explain how in a world of scarce resources we're supposed to just grow forever. You know what happens when animals become overpopulated in a region? More of them die and they have less kids, keeping the complex ecosystem metastable. We live in a complex ecosystem, we're part of it, but nobody in power acts like it, because they treat problems like birth rate as being independent of literally all other variables, and they treat bigger population as a simple and inherently good proposition, with no limiting principle.
