This is by a lady called emily oster. Now I have heard of her, because she wrote a book that smug people have been telling me is the truth. What was that book? It’s called ‘expecting better’ and it’s about pregnancy.
She’s an economist by the way, and I’m a bio scientist, she has zero, zip, nil professional experience in anything developmental and I’ve got a PhD in it. Anyway,
credentialism eatablished, so what’s the book about? It’s about what you can and can’t do in pregnancy.
For example: drinking. She claims in the book that alcohol at lower levels is harmless. That’s not been proven at all. Alcohol is a teratogen and we do not know any safe level of it during pregnancy. She uses varies large studies and pushes the ‘in Europe everyone drinks! ‘ (Untrue) line to basically encourage women to ignore all the advice about not drinking during pregnancy.
She claims that large studies show no difference between low level drinkers and those who don’t drink at all, but there are massive issues with this. Firstly individuals seem to metabolise booze differently. Secondly a lot of the effects are fairly subtle and even the larger effects are ignored and hidden by society. Thirdly she’s not really providing a good control group - this is ll self reported. So you’ve got her saying a few pints are fine, but ignoring the fact that 3-5% of kids (way higher in some countries) have some sort of cognitive or physical disability at varying levels from exposure to alcohol and nobody is very keen to explore that.
There are other things she insists are fine, and I’m sure she was a Covid vaccine zealot (when these shots gave pregnant women massive fevers which alone can be very dangerous.)
But anyway, just wanted to point out that she has previous, and is clearly one of those academics whose work is used to self reference an agenda into being.
@not william stenchever the ‘line up forever, more everything forever, infinite everything’ train is going to wreck us. it’s such a fucking stupid mindset, you can tell none of them are ecologists. They should all be strapped into a projector , clockwork-orange style while DUNE and basic ecological tenets are beamed Into their drug addled brains until they get it. Idiots
